that should read "illegal or unlicenced" possession of a firearm
    FROM THE ACT:-
    (2) Any person who—
    (a) possesses, uses or carries,
    (b) manufactures, sells or hires, or offers or exposes for sale or hire, or by way of 30 business repairs or modifies,
    (c) puts on display, or lends or gives to any other person, or
    (d) imports in to the State a prohibited firearm or prohibited ammunition shall be guilty of an offence.

A person who is guilty of an offence under this section is liable—
    (a) on summary conviction, to a fine not exceeding €5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or both, and
    (b) on conviction on indictment, to a fine not exceeding €20,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years or both.

That was never signed into law.

Dermot Ahern and Willie O'Dea were great at giving interviews just after the murder of Shane Geoghan, about how new tougher sentences would be brought in for gun crime and illegal gun possession, including the sentence you mentioned.

Quite a bit of time, and the murder of Roy Collins, down the road and those new "tougher" sentences are still gathering dust waiting to be passed into law.

Was just typical FF waffle and typical O'Dea trying to make himself look relevant as the man seems to want to give a quote on everything to do with Limerick from murders to floods to the opening of shops, but when he gets asked a direct question, he always falls back on his stock reply of that the interviewer will have to ask the appropriate minister.

Well if that is the case he should stop sticking himself in front of a camera every chance he gets, but then again for a lot of the sheep out there, that is all he has to do to get votes.
