It's crazy how young the Gronk is. If he stays fit he will surely rival TG's career. Interesting stat on TG is that he has only fumbled the ball 6 times in 1242 receptions

Gonzalez has missed 2 games in 17 years, aside from the Gronk already having missed more, there's no chance of him catching him if he doesn't stay healthy. In such a physical position, it's unlikely he will. 17 years in that position isn't easy, regardless of how young he is now.

I think some of TG's records will never be broken.

Edit: they were both actually the same age when they started playing. And while Gronk might be ahead at this point, relatively. How many years has he got left with Tom Brady?

2 games missed in 17 years really is a remarkable stat. When fit, Gronk has steam rolled all before him during his time in the league. But he also takes an awful lot of punishment during the season. So I really doubt that he could sustain that punishment for another decade.

Phins TE Dustin Keller suffered a very serious knee injury earlier. Texans Safety D.J. Swearinger’s helmet hit his knee on a low tackle. His leg then bent the wrong way which is not good at all. An injury like that can end a career. Hopefully it won't and he will return healthy next season.

Watching some of the Packers Vs Rams game earlier. I watched Lane Taylor deliberately throw his body toward the lower legs of a Rams DL, as he flushed the packers 2nd string QB from the pocket. Taylor was called for an illegal block, but it was one of the stupidest and most dangerous plays I've seen in a long time.

In a league where a Safety/CB can get called for PI if he farts near a WR. This kind of reckless and stupid play by Taylor, should be severely punished imo. He could have destroyed both lower legs of the Rams player he hit.

    Worst off season ever.

What are Miami going to do at TE now?

    From Ian Rapoport:
To add to the woes for Dustin Keller (torn ACL, MCL, PCL, dislocated knee cap), @ArmandoSalguero says docs fear nerve damage. Scary.

Bad, bad news. Probably a career ending injury.

That is very nasty and if there is nerve damage, then the chances of him returning do look bleak. :(

Could see a lot more tackles like that over the season with defenders being coached to go low and avoid the flag for helmet to helmet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,626 ✭✭✭rockonollie

It's bad enough that the tackle was low, and may have ended a player's career......but could Swearinger not have just let it be, instead of using it as a platform to attack the league's stance on helmet to helmet hits.

Can i ask the obvious question.
Why are defenders going for tackles that are in a lot of cases going to injure someone (possible themselves if they take a knee to the head)
Why arent they doing a midsection tackle and trying to wrap up the ball carrier?

Charles Clay, who I think is a good ball player. But Keller is a huge blow. Especially when Tannehill had struck up a bit of chemistry with him. For the first time since Randy McMichael, the Fins had a legit receiving TE. Hopefully he can make a full recovery.

One huge plus that came from the other night though was Tannehill and Wallace connecting well on numerous plays and now seem to be geling. Was starting to worry this was never going to happen.

Russell Wilson is still the shortest player on the team

We've seen tackles on the midsection where the head has slid up and its been called helmet to helmet. Hitting low avoids this. Also if you're a corner tackling a big TE I'd imagine you'd want to tackle low the majority of the time. Otherwise your going to be carried a few yards down field.

That's not really fair on RG3 though. He made it to the playoffs in his first and only (so far) season.

Part of the problem with being a Heisman winner is it often leads to being an early pick, which means you're doomed to a sh!tty team often for years. It's why Luck should have been ROTY IMO. 2-14 to 11-5 with an arguably inferior team.

Troy Smith was selected in the 5th round by Baltimore.

Was expected to be starter at least for the first few games of the 2008 season while the rookie Flacco was developing. Unfortunatly for Smith he became ill in training camp, Flacco took over as starter after beating out Kyle Boller and Flacco never missed a game since.

And Smith started games in San Francisco.

He had a fair shot, just wasn't good enough. In Canada these days I think.
Perfectly good NFL backup QB though, he's no scrub

It's a shame seeing Carson Palmer on that list. Thought he was going to be a top 5 QB for years to come prior to his injury (which ironically happened in a playoff game).

Sanchez had like what 4 or 5 playoff wins? It's a horrible way to evaluate a QB, as is wins in general.

Lance Briggs ‏@LanceBriggs 1h Shaking my head moment. Nfl fines jon bostic 21k for his clean hit against the chargers.

    That's absolutely ridiculous.

You're taking someone's livelihood off them for a perfectly good hit.

Bernard Pollard said he can see the game dying off within 30 years due to overkill on player safety. He might not be too far off:

The argument seems to be (according to the Chicago Tribune) that he went in head down and made some helmet to helmet contact. Seemed fairly minimal to me considering they fined him about 5 per cent of his annual salary. Also, the argument doing the rounds is that the league has to be seen to discourage helmet to helmet contact due to the lawsuit currently against them, which is why you can expect a lot more career ending leg injuries in the coming year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,199 ✭✭✭Justin10

There was a slow motion replay on youtube seems to be gone, and it clearly showed he puts the head down and hits the side of the receivers head.

Great hit, but if you hit someone in the head, you have to be fined. Its a pity but thats the game.

Edit if you look at around 32 seconds into the video above, you can see Bostic leads with the head and smacks into the side of the helmet of Willie.

What's so hard about leading with the shoulder? There is absolutely no reason that hit would have been less great if he made contact with the shoulder.
