I'll always remember a similar play against the Redskins on 3rd down a couple of years ago. I actually prefer this one as he breaks more tackles.

NFL umpire Roy Ellison has been accused of bad language towards Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams. Appearently Ellison has a bit of form for using colorful language. You have to be careful what language you use to the boys from the bible belt !!!!!

    Maybe they are friends?

As in, my initial reaction was "aww, nice". And then I thought, is that not a bit patronising, whose to say the guy in the wheelchair isn't good friends with fellows who are athletes and they are not doing it out of any pity. And then I started confusing myself.

To be honest, i thought the same at first. Maybe the guy in the wheelchair has loads of friends and it was the one day he sat on his own. It would be a little condescending for the football guys to sit with him thinking just because he's on his own he couldn't possibly have friends. (even if that was true, their hearts were still in the right place)

I'm choosing to take it at face value because that's more than likely what happened and it brightened my day.

True. Was more kind of thinking it was condescending of me to assume it was awww cute, not them to do it. I'm sure that whatever reason they had, he's a friend, they saw a guy on his own, they wanted to speak to him, their motives were good.

This can certainly be filed under weird and wacky.

An article about the utterly bizarre coincidences between current Lions QB Matthew Stafford & the last Lions QB to win a NFL Championship back in 1957, Bobby Layne, who's passing yards franchise record was broken last Sunday by Stafford.
Also goes into detail about the curse of Bobby Layne for anyone who's unaware of it.

    *On 2013 finalists list

I have to think that the Colts contingent has a chance.......def Harrison

    Their resume:

    Harrison
1102 receptions for 14580 yards and 128 TDs
8 consecutive seasons with 1000+ receiving yards and 10+ TDs (only player in NFL history)
59 100+ yard games (3rd most in NFL history when he retired)
Had at least 1 reception in first 190 games of his career (NFL record)
Set NFL single season record with 143 receptions in 2002.

    Dungy
    148-79 record (.652)
Only coach to have a 7+ game winning streak in 5 consecutive seasons.
Only Colts coach with 10+ wins and playoff spot in each of his first 7 years as coach.
Reached playoffs 11 times in 13 season with the Colts, reached 3 AFC championship games and 1 superbowl, which they won.

Harrison is an OJ Simpson waiting to happen:

    http://www.gq.com/sports/profiles/201002/marvin-harrison

Even though he has never been convicted of anything and on the field he has a Hall of Fame resume, the voters probably won't talk about it but his shadyness will have an impact on his chances of getting in.

The OJ Simpson bust is a blemish in the Hall of Fame and its been debated whether if it should remain, they don't want two controversial busts in there.

There isn't that many coaches in the HoF, only 22.

Dungy had a very good career but its very very short. Comparing his career to the other coaches in the HoF, the majority coached for multiple decades. I think that makes him a long shot.

    Current Coach list:

    George Allen 1966-1977
    Paul Brown 1946-1962
    Guy Chamberlin # 1922-1927
    Jimmy Conzelman # 1921-30, 1940-42, 1946-48
    Weeb Ewbank 1954-1973
    Ray Flaherty # 1936-1949
    Joe Gibbs 1981-1992
    Sid Gillman 1955-1969, 1971-1974
    Bud Grant 1967-1983, 1985
    George Halas # 1920-29, 1933-42, 1946-67
    Earl (Curly) Lambeau # 1919-1953
    Tom Landry 1960-1988
    Marv Levy 1978-1982, 1986-1997
    Vince Lombardi 1959-1967, 1969
    John Madden 1969-1978
    Earle (Greasy) Neale 1941-1950
    Chuck Noll 1969-1991
    Steve Owen # 1930-1953
    Bill Parcells 1983-1990, 1993-99, 2003-06 Don Shula 1963-1995
    Hank Stram 1960-1974, 1976-1977

It'd be interesting to be a fly on the wall for the voter discussions of who should get in.

I'd say the debates are fierce as every player has their pros and cons.

Agreed....I think he has a chance....just not a great one....Harrison is much more likely.

Dungy's consideration would be that, despite a realtively short career, he was successful in almost every season.

Regarding the HOF, it's surprising there are so few coaches in it, but then again coaching turnover has never been as prevalent, there's at least one guaranteed HOFer coaching right now and several others who either have a great case (Coughlin) or are building one (Harbaughs). That said, Dungy apart from being so consistent, left a legacy in the Tampa 2 system he and Monte Kiffin implemented (with the same system being applied in Chicago and his Indy teams, amongst others) he became Tampa's first winning coach and then there's his record at Indy which is already stated. Critically in terms of voting anyways, he's the first african american coach to win a superbowl, which imo could get him in alone, given how big a deal was made about that. It also helps that he was just such a class act, humble and respectful and was always such a calm, dignified presence as a coach. He's nailed on to make it imo, first ballot or not remains to be seen.

The HOF has a backlog of receivers now but Harrison has to get in. He's arguably the second greatest WR in the history of the sport, a sure fire lock. If he doesn't get in, it's basically saying that the HOF is too full at that position and that, Jerry Rice aside, the standard cant be met. Cris Carter got in last year anyways so it's moot. Bit of a thug though unfortunately but in terms of what he did on a field he has to get in.

I still have to wonder (I end up asking this every year), and it may just be my Broncos fandom, but how the **** has Steve Atwater not even sniffed the Hall yet? He was one of the best tacklers the game has ever had and defined the position of hard hitting safety. Had 129 tackles his rookie season, 173 his second and was over 100 tackles each of his first five seasons. In a ten year career as a safety he had over 1000 tackles, ranking behind only Dawkins and Ronnie Lott, and with a shorter career than either. Took himself and two players out on a crucial third down in Superbowl 33 which basically sealed the game and was arguably the defensive MVP that day.

Harrison was not only not convicted. He was never considered a suspect by the police.
Comparing him to Simpson on the back of some quasi-journalistic piece is either naive or idiotic.
