Says a lot about Harvin that two teams have now let him move on in his peak.

Rex could be saying bye bye if this doesn't work out.

Without a doubt, they're 1-6 and the vultures might start circling soon.

This is nothing to do with Rex, he has no say or personal moves. Rex knows he's done, I think this Idzik attempt to keep his job.

Wonder has this anything to do with the "bad teammate" rumours....

Didn't see this one coming at all. What the...?

That said, guy nearly ran the ball more than he was targeted in the air, so maybe not all that much of a loss to the receiving corps!

Seahawks team source: "Percy didn't want to be here. We accommodated him.

I was told “Go find a team picture from Super Bowl and you can still see part of the black eye Tate got from Harvin"

Harvin was more difficult to deal with last year than anybody knows. He has real trust issues with people. No getting it back once lost.

He b1tched his way out of the Vikings over the ability of Ponder, couldn't get along with Russell Wilson...wait till he meets Geno Smith and the Jets circus...could be a match made in heaven.

Couldn't imagine the Jets giving up much for him, a 2nd round seems too much at this point...guessing a mid round pick

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,495 ✭✭✭✭Billy86

If all that stuff is true, this is the beginning of the end of Harvins career, and as mentioned with the Smith/Vick circus I expect it to wind down quicker than some might think. If he falls out with the Jets he could fast be on his way to one year vet minimum deals because of his attitude issues, and typically players don't last long once that cycle begins.

Couldn't be the other New York team involved, of course!

Really surprised to read this, didn't see it coming at all even though his attitude has been an issue since college. Great player when all's perfect for him but when it isn't he's been known for being a major distraction. He'll go to the Jets and his ability will be completely wasted unless they put Vick on the field and let him throw it deep...saying that it's a major question mark as to whether Vick can still do that. Given what the 'hawks gave up to get him in the first place it'll be really interesting to see what they recouped

Goes to show what an idiotic trade it was in the first place, they got 8 games for a first round pick.
Well, 8 games plus a Superbowl!

I didn't see that coming at all.

Why don't these guys who seemingly know it all after the event come out and say these things at the time? That would have been a very good story to print.

I'm guessing it's because they are afraid they'll stop getting information if they do? But then again it will generally nearly always leak to them. I know King travels to each team during pre-season for a couple of days so it's probably more to do with the fact he doesn't want to lose that sort of cushy number.

This is strange considering all I've heard in the last week was how the Seahawks were trying to have Harvin in the game plan too much and they needed to go back to the run game!

I really do wonder if the media only finds out what the team let them hear or if they have all the information but keep it out of the public domain at the behest of the teams!

Maybe with one or two trusted core team reporters that's possible. But knowing the media and what they're like, I'd say it's more a case of deliberate misinformation and not showing their hand..

I guess as long as he's on the team, people are saying nothing, and as soon as he's cut loose, the stories start to leak out.

Reports: Harvin fought teammates, took himself out on Sunday

Can't help but think of Brandon Marshall, who's had a remarkable turnaround since leaving the Dolphins (coincidentally he'll play his first game back against them this weekend).

That was a medically diagnosed issue, so not sure it's the same as Harvin. They did a Football Life on Marshall recently, which focused very much his mental health issues (should be on gamepass if you want to check it out).

Interesting thing in the documentary was that it was almost by chance that he got treatment (another player pushed him to see this specialist), and could've been seen as just another nutcase.

    edit, here it is:

someone on Twitter suggested a 30 for 30 on the Gators from 07/08 onwards! Some of the people involved (I haven't verified these): Tebow, Hernandez, Urban Meyer, Harvin, Riley Cooper, Cam (was he in trouble in college?) and the Pouncy brothers!

Not sure if some of them had as colourful a life in college as they have had in recent times but would be an interesting now and then nonetheless!

Classy stuff from Chip. Doesn't surprise me though, he always comes across as a really sound, likable dude.

Cam Newton got dismissed from Florida for stealing a laptop. Sat out the season, enrolled at Auburn, the rest is history.

Carlos Dunlap is another big name Gator who was in trouble in college. Having said that, the list of players who weren't in trouble during Meyer's time would be a lot shorter.

Edit: Left out the fact that Cam was of course a Juco transfer, in between Florida and Auburn.

Interesting that Harvin only has guaranteed money this year, he can be cut penalty free after this season. The Seahawks gave up a first, 3rd and 7th round pick for him. They paid him $12m signing bonus as part of his extension ($14m guarenteed).

The Jets will pay his salary for the rest of this year (about $7m), the rest of his contract is about $10m per year, you'd assume he'll have to take some sort of paycut.

Hawks wanted rid of him, plain and simple. I still find it all pretty shocking though.

At what age based on their TDs so far would players need to play to to reach Mannings TD numbers

Makes me sad cuz I think of how little time Brady has left, not to catch the record naturally, he already has plenty of his own, highest win percentage, most playoff wins etc

Just that his time is almost at an end :(

Must be terrifying as a pats fan ye could be on for a few rough years after he goes although what appears to be a talented young offense around him could help a new qb if they all develop the way they should

He has played 46 regular season games less or nearly three seasons less than Peyton. But I can't see him playing on for three seasons after Peyton retires. Then again you'd never know, he's spent a career beating the odds and shoving it down naysayers throats. So it's probably wise not to say 'never' with him. It would take me a few years to adapt to a Peytonless or Bradyless NFL.:(

Mannings' 508TD total is very impressive, but in todays pass heavy league I'd look to any top rank QB coming out of college now at age 22-23, given longevity and being on a reasonable team to have a chance to surpass it.

Breaking it down, playing just 16 games a year(no playoff games), a rookie QB as a starter at age 22 averaging 2 TDs a game would hit 508TDs just short of their 38th birthday(15.875yrs) and if the rookie developed into a top QB, he might well average more than 2TDs a game through his prime years(as Peyton has done).

so all he has to do is average 2 tds a game from his very first game and play 16 years in the nfl injury free

I think Brees & Luck are the only ones likely to threaten in. It all depends on how many more years Manning plays on for.

I think Luck could be a real threat in the long time. He has taken another step up this year (on course for over 40tds this year). He is already one of the top 5 QB's (with Manning, Brady, Brees & ARod) in the league & even though Wayne won't be around much longer he has a few nice young weapons already.

Obviously you can never count on injuries but you would think he has the physique for it. He may also get the added bonus of 18 game seasons coming soon which would tilt the balance in his favour.

For those that can remember and were following the sport back then, what was the early opinion on Peyton Manning in the NFL like?

It was way too long ago for me, but I note from just the team records that they went 3-13, 13-3 (lost in divisional game), 10-6 (lost in wildcard game) 6-10 in his first 4 years.

Was the general consensus from the minute he walked into the league that he was going to be a legend, or was there some doubters there among the more knowledgeable?
