sorry if this has been answered already somewhere...

is it possible to pick up italian tv on free sat?

i have a dish and a humax pvr. not sure what satellite i'm pointing at.... it looks like it's about south east.

i don't really mind which italian channels, just to have some for our baby to watch (he's half italian)

    thanks!

What channels are you currently picking up on your receiver? Will know then what satellite you are on.

There are a few FTA italian channels on hotbird.

Just noticed when you say freesat if you currently have a freesat setup then your receiver wont be much use on other satellies assuming it is the proper freesat box.

thanks for the quick reply. the box is a humax FOXSAT-PVR,

i get BBC1-4, BBC HD, ITV 1-4, e4, more 4, chan 4, film4. is this enough to tell which satellite i'm on?

is it just a case of swinging the dish to the correct direction? or do i need to buy another box.... :(

You on 28 east you need 13 east. The box you have in no real good for what you want to do. If you swing the dish you'll lose all your bbc etc. You'd be better off buying one of the many available FTA kits ie lidl and do a fresh install for 13east.

do you mean put up a second dish?

also, if i didn't mind losing all the bbc channels, would simply swinging the dish do the job? just in case the in-laws visit over xmas!!!

It would be a case of moving the dish but your box is a problem. You'll need to add all the channels manually and to watch them you would have to select them from the OTHER CHANNELS menu, a bit of a pain. But in saying that why not. Here is the list of the channels you can/will pickup. Look for ita in audio for italian.

    Hope this helps

Italy have their own Freesat platform called http://www.tivu.tv/ but you need to pick up the box in Italy. That said its viewable from Ireland.

Most of the main terrestrial channels from Italy are on 13 East. While some of them are FTV the encryption is only used on some programmes.

There is a specific channel for bambinos: RAI Gulp, as well as many other Italian channels on Hotbird 13E

Any free-to-air box will receive it.
