Moved from Mature and Non-Traditional Students. Hopefully you might get a response from someone here in the know. Maybe change subject title. I forgot before I moved thread, thanks. - Larianne.

If you want to be a secondary teacher, complete your degree and apply for the PGDE (previously called the H. Dip.).

Good luck with it. One of the best teachers I know left school at 14 (after having been told by a teacher they were 'too stupid' to do the LC) and came through the mature student route.

Make sure your degree is accepted by the Teaching Council.

Thanks for the info, so i dont have to go back and complete the leaving cert then? How do you contact the teachers council?

    Many thanks

No you don't need the Leaving, your degree surpasses it, unless you're intending to do primary teaching where you need a certain level of Irish.

The Teaching Council are here: http://www.teachingcouncil.ie/home/default.asp?NCID=1

Their current list of recognised degrees and qualifications is here (.pdf file)

Leaving certificate student here, Is it possible to become a post-primary teacher by studying education as an undergraduate course and then studying the specialist subjects for post-graduate?
