Noticed today that the M4 signage upgrade between J5-J7 which was mentioned before on these boards is now complete - goodbye one of the last examples of 1990s Irish motorway signage, unfortunately - on the good side some of these signs were faded and patched to death so they needed replacements.

    Two issues though:

    * Why they bothered replacing the RCSs with identical signs, slightly bigger and on different poles (the collapsable stuff instead of the old poles) I have no idea. Seems a waste in this economic climate.

    * The bigger issue - the signage approaching J5 eastbound now indicates that the M4 continues eastbound whereas in fact motorway regulations end at this junction. In fact, as if to justify their error, they've REMOVED the End of Motorway 2km and End of Motorway Regulations signs on this carraigeway! Before someone mentions "maybe they will redesignate the Lucan Bypass" that can't and won't happen due to the private accesses on it. So what are they playing at? Its bad enough that the limit drops instantly from 120km/h to 80km/h at this junction but now there is absolutely no warning for anyone unfamilar with the road that this is about to happen...

Don't think the old poles were all crash barrier protected or were even in a location where they could be easily protected.

They've taken the last remaining sign I know of with Castlebar as the terminus of the N5 down - was outside the Bartons depot in Maynooth approaching the junction. But they've left the patched 1993 No signs up.
