Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Awful birdie miss . Body language is like he has lost the head a bit.

  • Registered Users Posts: 67 ✭✭RainNeverBow

Anyway may as well attack everything now. Needs leader to make a big error to have any chance.

His to lose at this stage

Pan now making a mistake. Hopefully Shane capitalises.

And if he doesn't...let it not be Kuchar.

    Great birdie at 14

Unlucky on 13 I have to say. It was a good shot in. 14 foot birdie putt is not an awful miss!

Dont count him out. Kuchar is struggling right now, Pan may drop a shot and shane has the par 5 coming up. Remember Abu Dhabi.

Shane is better when not in the lead. Yes anyone but Kuchar here too! Cantlay playing well too again this week.

He dropped before the last few in Abu Dhabi. Birdie will get the confidence rolling again

Great week by Seamus Power all the same.

Thanxbetajayzus he got birdie on 14. I thought the missed putt on 13 was him bowing out of contention.

    C'mon lad!

Exactly. He was 3 behind (I think) with 5 hole to go. Yes the leader there played safe and messed up the last hole, but Shane attacked the course, like he has the last two holes here. He has a resilience to him that was missing for a few years.

Does he need a win to get into the open?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,494 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

    DJ has completely capitulated.

Kuch bogey. Cantley will get a birdie though

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭boardise

Still hanging in -might make a play-off yet .

If I heard the commentators right, no - the top 50 ranked players qualify and Lowry is 50th currently

Cantley is looking good on 15 and playing well. If he makes birdie then you feel Shane has to make birdie aswell.

Thought it was closer from approach for some reason.

With the way the others are going could still make a playoff.

Poor 3rd on 15. Par at best

Yeah, needed to birdie that hole. Has to rely on mistakes you fell and get another birdie somewhere. Pan is now on 12 under but with 2 tough holes to come.

If layup you have to make sure you nail the next one close. Not to be

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,186 ✭✭✭munsterlegend

The last few holes are difficult. I think -11 might still get you a play off so Shane needs to hang in there.

Making a total horlicks of the easy par 5. ...40 feet from the flag in 3 after a super drive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,494 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

CT makes it hard for himself. Big close now but hard holes

  • Registered Users Posts: 83 ✭✭Spurion

    Anyone but Kuchar please

Part of the problem - if shot tracker correct is a somewhat short distance on 2nd shot.

So had 100 yards to try and make up and over cooked it

It’s not that easy. Windy and second shot full of danger.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 657 ✭✭✭irishash

Kuchar home at 11 under and could be good for a playoff. Obv Shane has to birdie one of the last 3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 657 ✭✭✭irishash

Jesus, Johnson has gone bogey, bogey, bogey, double bogey and is looking at another double bogey at 15.

Needs a good finish obv. Need pan to drop one.
Not sure you'd fancy Shane in a playoff here.

Hope that he does something special.

Is he eager to get back on the PGA tour full time?

In bunker at 16. Looks like the race is run.

Need an up and down for par...tis slipping away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,871 ✭✭✭Barnaboy

That double was disastrous. Struggling ever since. Can't see him winning, even if Pan drops a shot at the last.

+7 for his last 5 holes and +9 for his last 18 holes x)

The short miss for par was a killer. Take that away, he would be one behind. Praying for a birdie birdie finish. You never know.

He said after the win in Abu Dhabi that he wasn't actively trying to get the PGA Tour card back.

Obviously wants to be at the big events stateside but sees himself primarily as a European Tour player.

Having a mare. He seemed a bit unlucky on some shots but not that unlucky

Only first matters to Dustin. Just messing around the back 9.

Is he qualified for the PGA championship or what's the story there? That's the next one in May right?

I see Lowry parred 17. Over now.

Yeah a good week overall. Good to see two tricolours on the first page..it’s been a while.

Being on the first page of the leaderboard is no consolation given how it all panned out.

He could really have proved he could handle being a front runner but he didn't.

He has the talent so it's just disappointing to not see him prove it and get another win to his name.

It was a good tournament and he'll take confidence from it. He seems determined to give it his best this season, he has said he wants to get in the next Ryder Cup team. I think he'll get some more wins this season.

He finished in the top 15 last year so he gets back in on that basis, I assume his world ranking would get him in anyway though

Think it’s top 100 for pga so he’s good for that, presume world top 50 exempt for British & is open ??

Up to 43 in the world it seems

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,080 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

I would have said at start of the round that he had to finish ahead if DJ. He did that but the double bogie on 12 has cost him the W.

All in all it's one that got away. He was -12 after 45 holes. And nothing much after that.

    Onwards and upwards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,776 ✭✭✭abff

I think there was never much danger of Shane failing to qualify for the Open Championship. One of the categories is 5 players not already exempt but within the top 20 in the Race to Dubai after week 25. With the points Shane earned for his win in Abu Dhabi, he's pretty much guaranteed qualification in this category if he falls outside the top 50 in the world rankings.

For the US Open, the top 60 in the OWGR two weeks prior to the tournament all qualify and it's extremely unlikely he will fall out of the top 60 by the beginning of June, particularly as yesterday's result sees him up to 43rd in this week's rankings.

Are you for real?? Have you not seen the tournament's hes won? And how he won them?
