Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Had a good weekend, finishing T12 and 4th in overall Ranking, with a nice bonus too for his efforts.

He also remains at 19 in the World rankings.

I'm sure he will be delighted with his year overall and 2020 is looking good for Shane.

Looks to me like the Shane is the pick of the sportsperson of the year panel. Realistically, Rory is the outstanding sportsperson from Ireland this year. And he hasn't been shortlisted. That's because it's a public vote and if they were both options they'd split the golf vote.

Hard to see Cluxton not winning it myself. I'd be shocked if it wasn't either of these two.

Katie Taylor or Lowry I'd say

He doesn’t like to get involved with politics.

New country and course to play

Plenty of other countries and courses to play in. Part of their propaganda machine now. Disappointed he didn’t take a stance similar to Rory’s.

This forum would be apoplectic if Rory played there, Shane not so much

Yes, if Rory had played he'd be slated. Similar to the Olympics I suppose!

Really enjoyed that too and seems like he came from just a typical irish GAA family. A really likeable family and McIlroy came across as really likeable and genuine as well.

Very well made documentary. Thought his parents came across very well and really down to earth. Loved the bit about his mother knowing nothing about golf and sent shane to the course in a pair of football boots.

seems to be missing from the player now, probably too many people looking at it,

Saw the first half last night before the player crashed - cant locate it in documentary's or in the sports section on the player now

I've heard Rory speak about it before and he really couldn't fathom the support he got on the Friday and how that really blows him away even now thinking about it.

Rory wasn’t there to congratulate him on the 18th though.

Because he left portrush on the Friday? Wouldn’t blame him for getting the hell out of there.

Why would Rory be there on the Sunday having been cut from the tournament 2 days earlier?

    Harrington lives in Ireland.

Stop looking for any angle possible to beat Rory with.

Harrington is also Ryder Cup captain so watching two of his leading players play a high pressure match down the stretch in a major is a fairly fundamental part of the job. Some people just love any reason to knock Rory.

I was there on the Friday. It was incredible.
Everyone was following him and everyone knew they were watching something special.

My tiny story was on the 16th where mcilroy pushed his drive right, missing the fairway and leaving himself in an awkward spot. I couldn't see him where I was standing along with thousands of other people following on the right side of the fairway as he was down in a dip in front of me. A lad beside me had his phone open with footage of what was happening just beyond the hill. Myself and a bunch of other around stuck our heads in to see.

A lady with an older couple nearby following along saw what we were doing and asked where he was. I motioned that he was just a few metres over the hill beside us and we gave them a quick update as best as we knew it.

The crowd erupted as he hit a great shot. I couldn't actually see Rory hitting the ball itself but weirdly I could get that bit on the phone and then looking up from the screen I could actually see the ball fly though the air (and land on the green). It was a great shot. Everyone separated, moving on, clamoured to get to the next bit to try get a clearer view.

While walking on I was yapping to the lad (with the phone) commenting on how he did great to leave himself with a birdy putt. He said

"Did you recognise the lady and the couple beside us back there?"
(I'm not very good with faces; I hadn't)

    He said "that was Erica".
(I'm not very good with names; I didn't react)

    He said "Stoll".
    (I didn't react)

    He said "Erica Stoll".
    (I didn't react)

    Confusedly, he clarified: "Rory's wife".

    "Oh" says I.

"And that was Rory's parents beside her" says he.

    "Ah" says I.

(It could have been the pope* standing beside me, I'd still not have noticed)

But it was a sign of how important this was for Rory that his wife and parents were in the horde of madness with us clamouring to watch every shot and just be there beside him. You could see him in the interview after the round he was starting to well-up.

(*I don't believe the pope was at the course during any of the 4 days)

Harrington is an R&A ambassador and was there in that capacity. McIlroy, like almost everyone else who missed the cut, had gone home.

Playing in Hong Kong this week.

Doesn’t appear to be on European tour now after reschedule.

Surprised he’s playing with desert swing starting next week but I’m sure the money getting offered to go there was enough to get on a plane

Good to see him play on euro tour and not in states. Especially if wants a Ryder cup spot

He was in Dubai for a few days beforehand practicing so probably straight back there from HK.

It's not a European Tour sanctioned event. Think its Asian tour.
