Currently in a tie for 65th, but it keeps changing. Looks like a toss up as to whether or not he’ll make the cut. 🤞

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,090 ✭✭✭Doc07

He scraped in. He did finish well on the back 9 to make it so might score well rest of weekend, make a few hundred grand and get the confidence up before the Masters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭dublin49

said in paper he has developed a hook to the left, not a course for wayward driving,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭dublin49

Shane outscored playing partner JT by 3 shots today and he must be thrilled how he has bounced back from the disastrous first round.Another RD in the 60s gets him back on track and on a upward trajectory for the masters

Beaten in a strange match. Only won one hole and lost2&1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,506 ✭✭✭BoardsMember

Putt on the last at dormy 2 down was awful, that's all I saw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,053 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Pars on 6 and 7 were the killers, two of the easiest holes on the course. You need to be coming away from them -1 minimum. Montgomery birdied both.

I see BO was caddying for Hatton yesterday. Is that just a once off or permanent arrangement.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,750 ✭✭✭coillcam

No idea but I find it funny that he's gone from a grumpy Lowry to a very angry Hatton. He'll need earplugs.

    Lowry getting hammered

One thing is pga tour is not a place to find your game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,541 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

He's in awful form, not the year he'd want that with Ryder Cup on the horizon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,853 ✭✭✭Trampas

I presume he’ll miss next week and then he is playing the next 2 weeks as masters and elevated pga event. I wonder would a trip back home do him good. Just a change of scene

  • Registered Users Posts: 64 ✭✭tintedgreenglasses2016

His match play stats are terrible. Not a major addition to a Ryder cup team

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,248 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

A wet weekend in Clara might be just the tonic he needs 😅.

Hammering Spieth today but the plane is fueled and engines running. Needed this earlier in week.

Is it pressure getting to him? Only Shane knows

He's 2 under after 9 so it looks more a case of Spieth playing poorly than Shane lighting it up. Still no harm for the confidence to get a good win today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭Neewollah

Shane absolutely striping it through 6 holes. Can't hole a putt. Hopefully he can take his chances on scoring holes on back 9 and frustration doesn't kick in

    *** then he holes a 50ft monster on 7

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,290 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

    3 under thru 9

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭dublin49

missed a 2 ft tiddler on first but got one he would not have expected to hole so all good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭Neewollah

Yep, he's been exceptional through 10. Great chance to finish now 5 or 6 under

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,357 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Lowry has started well, but he's made a mess on the par 4 11th. His tee shot went into the trees, asked for the trees to spit it out in mid air and fortunately it did, back onto the fairway. Then his second shot was well short, his third on the green but well short of the flag. His par putt effort was very good, but just edged past the hole, so first bogey on the card. Back to -2.

Did he lay up on 11 or did it clip a branch. Seemed a like a layout

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 176 ✭✭GolfPar

Looked like he might have been blocked out unless he tried to cut it off the water.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,290 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

Great round. Could have been a shot or two better tbh.

Good from Shane and very close with two or three other putts. Depends on how the weather goes he could be in contention.

Lowry missed 8ft birdie putt on 12th and he looks incredibly frustrated, angrily tapped his par putt in. He's not doing amazing but not awful either, with that kind of attitude the rest of the weekend doesn't bode well for him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 555 ✭✭✭Squeaksoutloud

Watched a bit of him on the app. Ball stroking looked great and setting himself up for birdie chances, just not sinking enough.

Shane's putting from 5 feet in is about the equivalent of a decent 10 handicapper

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,471 ✭✭✭boardise

Last 5 par fives ...Lowry ... 5 pars

Rahm 4 birdies and a par

Koepka 4 pars and an eagle.

    Edit : Finally a birdie 4 @15th

Losing ground bigtime at the par fives though.

Strong start to his final round, could be another 3rd place finish

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,853 ✭✭✭Trampas

Top 5 will be a good finish especially his recent run but easier when not under pressure to win.

More use it to go into next week

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,853 ✭✭✭Trampas

Drops shots when gets high on leaderboard. It’s like he gets vertigo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭dublin49

last 3 holes 60 ft from hole each time, wont be top 5 if he doesnt start hitting it closer

I think Shane showed good resilence this week ,he drove the ball really well and his short game was sharp. His putting was poor though and his irons were not close enough mostly so it was an uphill battle.Pity about double on 15 .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,876 ✭✭✭CMcsporty

Lowry was No.1 in driving accuracy. Interestingly he was 5th in GIR (Sheffler 1st with 76.47% and 1st in SG App 1.71) but Lowry was 38th SG App 0.16.

SG App 1st Rnd 1.51. SG App 2nd Rnd 0.83. SG App 3rd Rnd -0.33. SG App 4th Rnd -1.42.

So it looks like his first 2 rounds he was at his best with his irons and fell apart in the final round.

1st Round was the only round he gained strokes putting (1.32), shot a 68 equaling with his lowest round at Augusta ('22 2nd Rnd, '23 3rd Rnd, '16 1st Rnd)

Harrington also never shot better than a 68 there.

Shane was on the cut and birdied last for some breathing space.I see Rahm shot -7 from +1 and Hovland only managed -1 today so plenty of scope for Shane here to move up with a mid 60s round.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,853 ✭✭✭Trampas

Shane should give dr Bob a call. It’s time to do try something different with the flat stick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭dublin49

Shane needs 2 or 3 weeks holiday ,always wondered why he took so many breaks, now we know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,248 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

Shane seems unable to challenge for a win or top three or five finish anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,853 ✭✭✭Trampas

He can skip next 2 weeks. He should definitely do it. Take a few days off without hitting a ball. He’s struggling no matter what he says and I think a break will do him good. Very hard to find you game grinding on a course

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,248 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

No one does +1 first rounds like Shane Lowry 🙄.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,432 ✭✭✭dublin49

drove it well and long, poor on green and mediocre on everything else.
