Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Unfortunately his game is a bucket of balls at present.

Big week for Shane I thin to show if he has turned the corner or not. Could be a long second half to season

Nice draw for him. Still getting marquee groups even playing not his best

Cmon Shane! What a run he's on. 3 pars to finish would leave him in great shape. Hopefully the confidence will continue through the weekend.

disappointing finish bur great day overall, right back in the mix and hopefully will make further progress tomorrow.

Just seems to be in that rut of get’s high on leaderboard and for whatever reason he seems to drop a shot or two. But it’s a good turn of form

He's always got the game to be in the mix and a bit of a short game artist tbf. His putting just doesn't stack up alongside the rest of his ability imo. Any bit of heat with the flat stick and we'll see plenty of him on TV towards the finish.

Nine guys sitting on E and tied 10th including Rory. Wide open tbf but you'd have to be looking at Scheffler. Hovland should take some learnings from Augusta and Koepka lurking too. Super tough setup and you'd imagine there will be some big swings yet. Particularly if weather interferes.

Shane has had his share of luck this week with some 50 footers but the 3 foot miss on 15 yesterday was awful,he seems to miss more tiddlers than most.Top 5 would be great week for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

and misses 3 footer on first for Par.So in his last 5 holes has missed 2 three footers for par.He must be livid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭Trampas

The bird just now. He didn’t even appear to settle over putt. Literally hit it on the move

-5 after 6 holes in Jacks place. Hot start.

+5 for first 5 holes 2nd round. 😕 Sure blows hot and cold these times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭Trampas

Really is like a leaderboard watcher and gets nervous when he’s up there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

well he can relax now having had a 6 on par 3,missed cut in view,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,232 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

He woke up too quickly today 😂.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

has to be a missed opportunity this week ,trebles and double bogeys ,missed 5 foot putts and 3 putting from under 20 feet and still only 7 back, taking a double from middle of fairway with 125 to flag.he must be generally playing well as had so many brainfarts and was still close on back 9 on Sunday.2nd in Birdies for the week.

3 missed putts within 7 feet. Hello is that Doctor Bob? It’s Shane and I need your help. I can’t hole a putt into a bucket

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

one of the three was 3.5ft and another was 4.5 feet, you can see why hes prone to cursing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭Trampas

Good round but still missing a good few short putts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

his 6 from middle of fairway with 100 yds to green was a disaster,he could been leading or he could have missed the cut after that so good result but too many short putt misses killing him at moment.

Looking at his stats he actually gained 2 shots on the greens yesterday so It can't have been too bad.

Does depend on where you put irons too though. If you're putting irons in close, but missing the short putts, i believe that stat can look OK, but he can still be missing short putts to convert opportunities to score.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭Trampas

Bogey bogey start with a less than 3 foot missed on first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,756 ✭✭✭sxt

Lowry is 166th on pga tour for putts grom 3-5 feet. Not good enough and it's a big reason he doesn't contend consistently or often

That first hole has been a bit of a nightmare for him this week, a double bogey and two bogeys over three rounds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

5 bogeys in first 8 holes suggest Shane's game is not great at the moment, dont thing the penal rough around the US Open greens will be to his liking next week.

Bo looking very comfortable with Hatton, bit of an upgrade!

One thing that doesn't seem to get discussed with Shane is how he's a average to below average chipper/ scrambler he is, has all the talent and shots but is consistently average at best. Commentary hails him as a wizard, elite but the stats tell a different story.

    2016: 58 atg 169 scb

    2017: 174. 163

    2018: 122. 181

    2019: no stats

    2020: 54. 32

    2021: 14 135

    2022: 53 3

    2023: 124. 174

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,302 ✭✭✭daithi7

    "..2020: 54. 32

    2021: 14 135

    2022: 53 3

    2023: 124. 174"

What do these stats mean exactly!?

    Like in 2022 say , 53 atg and 3 scb ?

    What does that mean??

Ranked 53 Around the Green (atg)

    Ranked 3 in Scrambling (scb)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,721 ✭✭✭coillcam

I think ATG includes made putts for saves but I could be wrong. He's bang average in putting so it probably affects his ATG stats on that basis.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,302 ✭✭✭daithi7

Thanks, 53 atg & 3 in scrambling in 2022 sounds pretty decent to me tbh.

It's his stats in 2023 that don't look good really

    At 124. atg & 174 scb

That looks like a large loss of form in those areas imho.

  • Registered Users Posts: 404 ✭✭Innish_Rebel

Totally agree I only used those numbers because they were the ones use by @daithi7 when asking the question.

I was surprised how poor they were as well when he has a reputation for a great touch. But poor putting kills those strokes gained metrics as I think the ATG does include putting.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,302 ✭✭✭daithi7

Yes, but I think he actually does have a great touch around the greens as you can see in those stats in 2022 & a few years earlier, when he's been in form.

I take from those same stats that what he's really suffering from is a huge drop in form in 2023.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

my feeling on Shane 2023 is he showing good resilence when encountering setbacks but there are just 2 many doubles and trebles on his cards lately for him to compete at the top end.and his short putting is a real problem with nothing over 2 foot a gimme. Not hopeful for this weekend but would be great if he could find a bit of form and be close for back 9 on Sunday.

Around the green (ATG) does not include putting. It's just proximity to the hole from all shots within 30 yards of the putting surface.

The only putts counted would be those made from off the putting surface.

  • Registered Users Posts: 404 ✭✭Innish_Rebel

Wow that really does highlight that his well thought of "touch" isn't firing on all cylinders this season if it isn't including putting - it means his chipping is then putting extra pressure on the putting by not great proximity to the hole...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

thought Shane would kick on last night after getting thru the more difficult back 9 in level par but made the cut on the mark and a good round at US Open can make you massive progress so here hoping.Out early with Fleetwood and wind to get up in PM.Chance to move up.

He’s not making birdies. Hard to see him lighting it up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

yep but he was 2nd recently on birdies so it might be in him .

In fairness had 4 on front 9 today, has unfortunately handed 2 back though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

I thought going to bed the leaders would come back to him but most held their ground so top 10 likely best finish for Shane,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

big night for Shane, could do with top 5/10 finish to get up Fedex/Ryder cup lists and get some momentum going for remainder of the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭Trampas

    Great start by Shane today

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 185 ✭✭mitchelsontour

Was following him for a few holes no caddie input on the greens all his own reads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭Trampas

Hasn’t pushed on at all. Just seems to be his season as a whole

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

birdie fest tournaments dont suit Shane. After starting with 64 very disappointing 2 under for 36 holes,Fairly clear now Shane is not playing as well as he was last year and is playing top 40 golf at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭Trampas

    Pressure and lights it up

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,776 ✭✭✭abff

Disappointing finish to an otherwise great round. But I reckon he’d have settled for a 64 at start of play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,428 ✭✭✭dublin49

yeah could have had 61 or 62 today but good finish to week to send him home in right frame of mind for Open,
