Well he's guaranteed 4.4 world ranking points now, about the same as his 9th finish earlier this year, that will do him good.
If he wins against GMac that will bump him up to 8.9 points, about the equivalent of a top 5 finish on a well attended European event.

Actually, he's guaranteed at least 8.883 world ranking points. If he beats GMac, this goes up to 14.820 points and 4th place is worth 22.800 points and would take him into the top 50 and into Doral.

And am I right in saying that if he takes those 22.8 he'll be takin padraigs place in doral?

In all likelihood. That what it was worth last year. The total prize fund has increased from $8.5m last year to $8.75m this year, but I can't see the extra money filtering down to those knocked out in the third round.

Monday qualifying for the Honda classic is some lottery

    http://www.sfpgagolf.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Pairings-and-Alpha-Mayacoo.pdf

Some of Shanes opponents for the 4 spots on offer for 117 players are

Siem, Noren, Fisher, O'Hern, Karlsson, Coetzee, Donaldson to name but a few!

Shane will tee at 1:44 irish time.

Could be his management company or he might now be living in one of the 21 towns named Dublin in the U.S now that he has a PGA card.

There's a regular spot on the tour that's played in Dublin, USA.
Not sure of the course name.

All the US ones have the state after it, like Dublin, OH or whatever. Like the very first one - Harmony, FL

All the "foreign" ones have no state name or country or anything eg Shane Lowry - Maynooth, Alexander Noren - Monte Carlo, Robert Karlsson - London.

Ross Fisher is just Dublin which would lead you to believe its Dublin Ireland, not somewhere in the US.

Maybe Ross is looking for a way to get into the Rio Olympics by declaring for Ireland

If Shane does well this week and makes top 50 is he in Doral?

Yes top 50 next Monday gets in.

Big ask though to get through the qualifier and then have a brilliant Honda classic though!

He gets in a PGA tour event regardless, thanks to a sponsors invite he's in the field for the Puerto Rico Open which runs the same weekend as the Cadillac.

So at worst 2 weeks in Florida for Shane worst case as he's staying over :)

How come Shane didn't automatically qualify for Honda after posting a Top 10 at the WGC? I thought that any player in the top ten from the previous week automatically get into the next event on the PGA Tour?

I dont think that rule counts for WGC and Majors as these events are co hosted by all tours in theory.

He teed off at 8.44 local time http://www.sfpgagolf.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Pairings-and-Alpha-Mayacoo.pdf.
Results will be posted here http://www.sfpgagolf.com/tour-qualifiers/honda-open-qualifiers/ on completion of his round under the Results Mayacoo section.
Monday qualifiers are not well documented so social media may have results quicker than the page above. Try asking the man himself around 18.45 Irish time.

Has Lowry now overtaken Padraig Harrington as the RoI's top golfer?
If not, surely it is only a matter of time.
Lowry has the potential to be one of the biggest golfers Ireland has ever produced, once he starts backing himself a little more.

He did at the end of last year, Harro ahead of him again. 50th Vs 62nd.

Pity, would have been nice to see him in a regualr tour event in the States. Plenty more to come in the future hopefully.

Marcus Fraser made an interesting point that the Euro Tour had as much quality as the PGA Tour. While this is clearly not the case at the moment, there is a very good crop of young players in the "2nd tier" of the Euro Tour now. Noren, Lowry, Cabrera-Bello, Manessero, Olesen, Ramsey etc are a very talented bunch who would be well able to compete if they were playing full time in the States

Afternoon Tee time in Puerto Rico, 4:40 PM Irish time with Erik Compton and Peter Uihlein.

Early scoring conditions are good, Andres Romero -6 after 11. No shot tracker this week.

Shane was 40/1 with the bookies. He must be one of the highest ranked players in the field though so must be worth an each way bet?

Was hoping that he would make the cut. Different conditions, humidity, climate etc not in his favour.

Probably better not to be at Masters this year, get another year's experience under his (narrowing) belt.

Poor showing but he'll learn from it.

Just noticed Angel Cabrera Jr on the line up. Is he a son of the noncholant Angel Cabrera?

Draw for the Shell Houston open

    Round 1 - 10th tee - 9.10 a.m (2.10 p.m our time) - Shane Lowry, D.H Lee, Ben Kohles.

    Round 2 - 1st tee - 2.10 p.m (7.10 p.m our time)

Texas currently 5 hours behind, will become 6 on Easter Sunday.

Best of luck to Shane, making his first cut in a regular PGA tour event would be a good confidence boost.
