Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Decent enough finish by Shane to get into a five way tie for 5th. Pity about the missed putt on 17. I was watching Sky and didn't see him putt on 18. Did they show it on RTE?

It was the same feed wasn't it?

That's what I thought, but I wasn't absolutely sure. They interviewed Shane and spoke about the reception he got when he birdied the 18th, so I though it might have been shown on RTE. I rewound Sky, but couldn't find the coverage, but figure it might have happened during the ad break.

you can tell the difference by the colour of the card.
his is yellow, yours is red.

it's a clear breach of the charter, a post purely about betting, could/should have been an infraction.

lads the constant commentary on moderator actions is getting old, please leave it as it disrupts threads and causes problems.
if you have an issue take it to pm or feedback thread.
    no more warnings on this.

Calm down a bit. The guy made a genuine mistake.

Course must be there for the taking today by the looks of it, must be little to no wind.

7 birdies and one bogey, great round today. Here's to 3 more of them.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,256 Mod ✭✭✭✭charlieIRL

WFT? Harrington golf - a 7 on a par 5 he birdied yesterday. Damm.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,430 ✭✭✭Ilik Urgee

Lowry 2 birdies to 8 under in the first few holes. Still not one mention of him on SS, McGinley in the studio the last 45 mins and still no utterance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 514 ✭✭✭DuckHook

Ugh a nasty 7 on the par 5 6th has got to hurt..majority of the field bird under par.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,424 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

lowry could miss the cut yet if any of the -4's move up

he has zero chance of missing the cut

I was hoping Shane would be picking things up a bit more at this stage of the season. A bit of a slow start to 2013.
Was hoping he would go well at The Open , but not looking great at the moment.

    BTW,

A big fan of Shane , was hoping he would kick on again from 2012. Hopefully things pick up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 514 ✭✭✭DuckHook

Hopefully he can stop the downward trend in the rankings alright will struggle to get into the likes of the masters. I'm sure a good showing this weekend and in the open will spur Shane on.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,197 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

I know it may sound harsh but beating Rory in the match play earlier this year was perhaps a misfortune, IMHO he should stick to regular Euro events, back and forth across the Atlantic does not work for him. Heat over here is a different league.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,249 ✭✭✭Steven81

Very quiet on here so an update is Shane is +1 through 8 so 4 over overall. Will be great for him if he made the cut.

Well the early starters have had the best of it over the first two days. Tbf himself and Harrington will have to shoot the lights out of it over the weekend to secure a top 10.

Did well to make the cut considering the lack of birdies he's had.

Good tee shot on the first today

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,843 ✭✭✭Panrich

Two over par on the par 5's this week and a lack of birdies all round has cost him. From the little I saw today, he wasn't putting himself in good positions off the tee to get close to the pins.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,710 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Enjoying his last round with Cink. Both -3 after 12.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,080 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

Nice start in Gleneagles, par, eagle, birdie.

How he'd love to be back next September.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,030 ✭✭✭Minderbinder

Is he playing with McGinley too? Shockingly weak field there.

    McGinley is playing with Lowry.

Hardly "shockingly" weak. Half the top 80 in Race to Dubai are playing. Dont forget its the first week of the Fed Ex cup play offs.

Still weak though. Only seven ahead of Lowry in the rankings, and considering it's the Ryder Cup venue I thought a few of the European-Americans might make the trip. It's a shame for the organisers that they can't even put together a 'marquee group' as such.

Timing is very unfortunate in that it clashes with the opening week of the FedEx Cup playoffs. They might have got a better field if they had held it last week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

Well positioned for a nice cheque again
    Super stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,268 ✭✭✭big_drive

Lowry birdies 1 & 2 to move to 4th place

Could have a run at this thing if he picks up another few on front 9 and the leaders wobble

It's a crowded leaderboard so could be anyone's at end of day

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,628 ✭✭✭me89

Just one behind now, leader in trouble.
    come on Shane.

    Atta boy Lowry! Lovely birdie...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,710 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Bogeys on 15 and 17 killed his chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,710 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Wont be happy with that, only a par on 18th. Barely top 10 in the end. Lots of cash burnt in last 4 holes in race 2 Dubai.

Looks like Shane's off to play for Ireland in the World Cup in Australia.

    Contractual reasons me hole!

Delighted to see GMAC playing for Ireland. Hope the lads can do what Harrington & McGinley did some years back.

Its crazy that there are World Ranking Points available for this.

There shouldn't be any world ranking points for limited field events.

Sure that would rule out a serious amount of tournaments, the guys did have to qualify you know through world rankings, limited field would include the fex ex playoffs as the Euro and ROW non-PGA can't qualify, some of the best golf has been in those tournaments as well as other "invitationals"

    Agreed for the most part

It would rule out Tigers tournament, that Turkish tournament, South African one that coincides with Tigers tournament. Fed-Ex cup is open to any golfer in the world once you qualify so it's not a limited field.

The World Cup of golf is open to the top ranked player in the country and whoever he picks so he could pick a guy ranked 400 and they win the event, think that's unfair!!

The 2013 Nedbank Challenge is now part of the 2014 European tour season as well. Handy Ryder cup points for the Elite European players. 30 man field, even last will get $100K :o, $1.25 million for the winner :(

Is there clear qualification criteria for this or is it part invitational, I mean someone like Padraig who is clearly not playing well can win this event and suddenly be bolted to the top of the Ryder Cup qualification process.
