Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

No real chance of birdie on 17, still hoping on 18 but also for the others not to make birdies, big ask

    He has a putt anyway..

Pity on 18. Still a T3 place finish which should make him approx 200,000

And that's how it finishes up for him - pity about silly dropped shots in the closing holes, but a good week - well done, Shane!

Yes, an excellent week's work. But I'd say he's kicking himself over that missed tiddler on the 15th.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭sydneybound

He'll be kicking himself about that stupid drop shot on 15 (I think), the short putt. He seemed very happy in the 18th green, all in all good week.

Back up to to 71st in the world rankings, just inside top 30 in race to Dubai.

I love his latest put down of a twit on twitter giving him abuse

    "Ball bag"

Simple, to the point, and golf related :D

I have no idea why you would follow him only to take the mickey out of him, utterly pointless

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭ssbob

Great week from Shane and all set to defend in Portugal after a week off next week. Hopefully he is peeking in time for the big money events and can make the Top 50 before the year is out! Be great to see him at the masters!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭ForeRight

Poor Shane isn't happy about him and his mates getting refused from the shelbourne hotel when out for a few drinks.

Straight onto his twitter account to call the place a kip.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,001 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

    :)

Don't worry Shane! - there is always a bloke who comes home with more money than the rest of us at Christmas and tries to bring us into a bar, that we all feel awkward and are surrounded by gangsters in suits.

There are 100s of real bars around there you would have been grand in, in your Christmas outfits. :P

BTW - when you get to Augusta ( I know you will) - see how you get on trying to get your mates in :D

You gotta love the guy! Still a big kid at heart.

Looks like Shane is going to miss the cut by 1 shot for the second week in a row. Disappointing start to the season. Let's hope things pick up from here.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭sydneybound

Feel sorry for the lad, second week running missing the cut by 1 single shot. I'm sure he'll be grand this season, its not even February yet.

Then again he is a millionaire in the sunhine of Dubai so maybe I shouldn't feel too sorry for him!

I see he is playing galway bay at the moment with some mates.

What is it with Shane and airlines losing his clubs!? Must be infuriating for him.

I wonder has he tried putting one of these on the bag:
The county colours have been keeping Irish bags safe all over the world for decades...

My own brother flew off to NZ this morning, I was a bit concerned about him until I seen the Mayo headband tied around the bag....he'll be grand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,001 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Yes there was 1000s of those Mayo headbands on the ground in pubs around Drumcondra last September.

    Lowry is so small-time.
What other pro golfer would mention the price of their flight in a tweet.

Well if you paid 4k for a flight and they lose your luggage you have a right to be pissed. I'd love to know where all these lost clubs go to, someone working for BA probably has a shed full of club.

Maybe the small timer is on the other end of the quote! Has to be a worry if flying half-way across the world and clubs go A.W.O.L. before the tourney.

Twitter and Lowry dont gel imo.

Good start for Shane today. Four under, tied 7th. Let's hope he is getting back in business now after a really disappointing start to the season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,710 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Good score considering he had a pair of 6's.

Quiet day for Shane today, but minus 1 for the day so sits on -5. When did he grow the beard?

    5 under T23 after round 3.

Have it recorded did they show any of him on Sky?

    Sorry - ok I'm being facetious -

But does anybody know what Shane does these days.

Big fan. But I'm getting a little sick of him being a celebrity as opposed to a golfer. And - this is coming from a fan.

He is good on twitter - on 2nd Captains - the radio - But Shane it is bloody mid March. You were 56 th in bloody Morocco.

Anyway - give us something on the course to smile about.

Shanes' got a column in the Times starting today:

    that'll be entertaining reading.
".. and then I drove down to Tescos in Tullamore" etc

Quite a hole in the European tour calender, guessing it will be 4 weeks today before we see him playing again.

I'd prefer to see him express himself on the golf course than in a newspaper. Like an earlier poster, I'm a big fan, but we haven't had anything to cheer about this year. Damn it, he's a golfer, not a journalist.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 497 ✭✭Ernest Oreo

Shane thinks he's made it, and in his own mind he has.
He has very modest golfing ambitions I think, and as long as (1) the card is safe, (2) he makes the odd major e.g. The Open, and (3) the bank balance keeps tipping over, then all is fine and dandy in the Lowry household.
This isnt a unique approach obviously. The PGA is full of players who should probably be accountants or other such stable occupations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,710 ✭✭✭Speak Now

Nothing safe about his playing rights next year at the moment. Only 14K earned in 5 events. Hopefully form picks up from May when some of the better events come around. Currently not in any majors this year either, I dont get the impression that he thinks he's made it.

I still think that beating Rory last year in the matchplay was one of the worst things he's done, Rory played brutal and he still needed two unlikely chip-ins to win, since then he's just fallen away in golfing terms, he was 62nd after the matchplay, his profile increased dramatically, a few invites to the US but poor performance on the course, just three top 10's since, missed the cut when defending the Portugal Masters and now 111th in the world.
He does appear to be living his dream however so if he's happy with his lot then fair enough and good luck to him...

Interesting he's playing in the small money event co sanctioned with the challenge tour. Not really the actions of a man that thinks he's made it. Nice to see.

Good article & gives siome insight into some of the issues already brought up here today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 444 ✭✭Rippeditup

Nice article it has to be said...

I do disagree with his philosophy about only focusing on long term goals as without short term goals (both personal and professional) it is hard to focus as it feels very far away. Short term goals that are stepping stones to reaching a larger long range goal allows you to focus while still developing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 497 ✭✭Ernest Oreo

    this is revolutionary.
why hasnt anyone thought of this before..
stepping stone goals to achieve an overall vision or long term goal.
