Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I just read the first page of this thread, it makes for funny reading!! Some posters claiming Shane would be running a pro-shop by now!

    Name and shame.

This is impressive from Shane. I was only hoping he would make it to the weekend to gain experience, but he has make great progress up the leaderboard. Three holes to go.

A birdie on 18 would be be very nice. Set him up for a good finish over the weekend

Your wish has been granted. Shot a 67. That's a terrific effort - well done lad. Great to have someone to cheer for over the weekend.

more chance of Ronan Rafferty coming back and winning a major imo,i said it at the time here that he was too hasty to turn pro and i beleive this has been proved. It took him 3 or 4 months before he started to do any proper physical training and it was stated in the media(could well be bs)that he was doing very little practice compared to the other pro's.
He'll be running a pro shop in 5 years imo

    Hindsight is great!

A photo from the PGA website, don't think I saw any of him over the first two days on TV?

.....and great to do well so early on in his season and in the US, where he has very little experience.

I saw him admit himself in an interview that he did not work ared enough at first after turning pro.....he thought he wasn't good enough, but it was his caddy who told him he would have to work harder.....so he got on with it. Fair play.

Can't believe it's almost 6 years since this....I forgot about the approach for eagle, nice to see Rors there too.

    Great 7 minute piece

That was cool to watch :)

I had forgotten it went to a third playoff hole. I always remember the 2nd shot he hit on the 2nd playoff hole and forgot that that did not win it for him, lol :)

In a good spot today. Close enough that a good round will bring him right into contention. His goal yesterday morning would have been CUT and he has comfortably got inside that, so he'll be looking upwards rather than over his shoulder today.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,197 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

    Top 10 would be perfect

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,843 ✭✭✭Panrich

Nice start. after bogey at first, he has 3 birdies in 4 holes. Up to T16

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,536 ✭✭✭Dolph Starbeam

According to Sir Nick he has the best score on the course so far today, "2 under thru 9 is STEVE Lowry" !!!!

In fairness there was a yank called Steve Lowrey on the tour about 10-20 years ago.

Most impressive...unlike me today 32 points with lost balls scratching two holes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Very solid stuff from Lowry so far today. Hopefully pick up another birdie or two before he finishes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Finished with a level par round. That's pretty good stuff for a first outing of the year in the US. Lying 30th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Just interviewed on Sky - nice interview.

Missed the interview. Glad he got some coverage. I think he usually finishes well - good last round - so a few under would be a reasonable target. He won't threaten the leaders but top 10-15 is well in range.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

I'm hopeful for Shane today. He often shoots a decent final round. A top 10 finish would be brilliant.

Out with Martin Laird and Carl Pettersson, best grouping for him this week I think, hope he enjoys it

That's a nice grouping for him. Sky will at least talk about them, even if we don't see much of them. Really looking forward to this this evening.

1 under after 3 and currently tied 26th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,776 ✭✭✭abff

Another birdie on the 5th. Now tied 21st.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Petterson is having a bad day, so I hope that doesn't put Shane off. But Martin Laird is also on -2, so hopefully those two will pull each otherr along. C'mon Shane!

Just showed him putting for birdie on 9, lipped the hole. Unlucky.

Laird going well, so that might attract attention from Sky.

Leaders are getting a bit of hardship, 8 under could win this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Shane doing well in these conditions. Patience needed, and in fairness, Shane has that. This is mighty stuff!

Important 5ft putt for par on 15 coming up (index/rank 4)
