Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Another birdie or two before the end would be a very competitive total

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,345 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

18th probably the only realistic birdie chance left. Would be great if the wind decided to pick up again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,345 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Good 2 putt from 46ft to walk away with a Par 3 on 16

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Well he's whacked a great tee shot down the 17th. He seems to be driving very well. Tied 10th now.....this is great from Shane.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,345 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

46ft bunker shot to 2ft for par on 17. Still needs to make to putt.

Wonder will he go for 18 in 2

295yards down the middle of the fairway on 18. 240 yards left to the hole

Well he's whacked another drive of nearly 300 yds up the 18th.

TV said it was a birdie on 17... Not according to shot tracker or the PGA leaderboard

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,197 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

TV footage a bit behind, but still nice to see the lad's par putt on 17

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,345 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

T9 now and I think a par on 18 should guarantee a Top 10 finish.

They said it was a birdie and he was on -7.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,345 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

The lad has weight issues.... Because he's got massive balls :)

Went for 18 in 2 and made it to green side bunker. 4footer for birdie now.

Showing 4 footer for birdie on 18 now!

    Birdies 18.
-4 for the best round of the day so far.

    Super stuff.

Birdied the 18th.......brilliant. Tied 6th right now - WOW! This is a great performance from Shane! Well done fella! Great to have someone to shout for!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Did he make it? TV went to a break.

By the way is anyone else driven mad by Sky showing the same few ads every break, including the maniac looking for hotel deals and the simpering bird doing the same in her dressing gown?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,345 ✭✭✭✭PARlance

Could very well finish in T5 if one of the lads ahead implodes.

And if someone has to implode, I really hope it's Vegas! Bouncing balls of heads now and leaving it up to playing partners to signal/shout.

A great week. Looking right at home. I think the spell in the US could be really valuable - he will benefit from being in that sort of company and knowing he can mix it.

He will also be the better for being away from some of the "distractions" at home. (I'll say no more.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,404 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

They showed JB Holmes shot 3 times and didn't show Shane's 18th hole at all.

Yup, the guy shaving his chest and the lassie with her gas bill.......doing my head in.

I'd say Sky will interview him....Martin Laird on now.

Hard to call at present but he should be picking up a cheque of about $160-170k for his weeks work.

He would have to sell a fair few course guides to make that sort of wedge.

I suspect he might not stay on T7th, but he will be in the top 10 which is bloody brilliant!

And prize money is up this year. All depends on how many share the tie now.

Poor fella will have to pay most of it in tax anyway :)

When it comes to showing live play, Sky have very little power over who they can show. Now they should show him a lot more in Europe than they did last year, but I can't blame them here. Shane would be relatively unknown in the states.

Anyone have an idea how this will impact his ranking?

It has to improve it a bit. Decent field.

Shane seemed to drive very well today. Just watching some guys now, spraying their drives around, and it's costing them. That was a great round from Shane.

Not sure, abff might be around to let us know as he's the expert.

@VC606 is worth a follow on twitter, bit of a rankings guru. He was saying that 41-60 in the world are extremely close, so this should give Shane some breathing room.

I'm not sure about the ranking points for this event, they are probably lower than an average PGA event. No Rory and more of the Top 50 playing on the European Tour this weekend than normal. So I don't think there'll be a big jump for him. But that's just a guess.

That is a superb week for shane. Really tough course to start his year off and he couldn't have asked for much better. Really bodes well for his year.

He's been s bit of a slow starter in the past so this bodes well

Talk of a move to 41 or 42 in rankings if things stay as they are. That would be a move of about 2 or 3 places.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Well his tied 7th is now confirmed. Tied with three others.

Horizon Sports (on Twitter) forecasting it will put him inside the top 40.
