Insulin Pumps - where did you get yours?

    Hello Everyone,
    I was just wondering what clinics and specialists actually treat people with diabetes using the insulin pump?

    I'm thinking about changing my doctor because she doesn't have the resouces to do the pump and I would like this to be an option for me.

    Pumps have briefly been mentioned to me a couple of times at Blanchardstown Hospital. But then when I made very vague non committal noises about maybe feeling a bit odd with a tube fitted permanently, and hoping they would then tell me more about how fantastic a thing they were, they then just changed the subject and never mentioned them again.

    So from that I'm not sure if they actually do do them there or not, or just have a quota of people they have to tell about them. It was a slightly strange conversation each time they have come up.

    St. Vincent's is another hospital that fit the pump (with the assessment clinic being St. Michaels in Dunlaoghaire).

    Professor's Hilary Hoey's team at Tallaght's National Children's Hospital treat my son. He was dxd in Nov. 06 age 5. Switched his care from our local hospital (does not have an endocrinology dept.) to Tallaght and got his pump in Feb. 08. Last A1C was 6.7.

    Great freedom and quality of life restored to its almost former self.. It's not a cure but beats injections any day and let's you control it as opposed to the other way round.... Hoping Medtronic launch their pump patch (tubeless) in the next 2 years. This would be fantastic. Any questions, just ask.:)

    Ive heard good things in terms of it helps control your levels much better but I'm one of those people who doesnt want to have something hooked up permanently, id rather continue on with the injections for now.

    Although the Pump Patch Terric mentioned would be a great device!

    Don't know if you guys have heard but the Omnipod is going global. This is Insulet's tubeless pump (same one as worn by Nick Jonas). Will be launched in Europe, the U.K. (will include Ireland - I rang Ypsomed (distributors..) to confirm.

    This system looks fantastic and it's availability to Europe inc. Ireland from June 2010 is music to my ears. It'll certainly put the wind under Medtronic to get a move on with their pump patch. Either way, we'd be vvvvvvvvvery interested in this tube-free pump.
