I wouldn't be the most knowledgeable when it comes to home entertainment systems but I am basically looking for an amp and 5.1 speakers in and around €400. I want something that is scalable and that I can add lots of peripherals to. I was looking at the Onkyo HT-S5205 here, would that be a good buy?

Onkyo seems good, I personally love Yamaha and swear by them.

    Try this http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi?view_product=1&id=26399&sid=10&cid=123&scid=7399

Both are simular products in the same range, I'd also say you'd get it cheaper thats €499. Peats tend to be a little bit dear with their amps.

Looking at specs the onkyo seems to have the edge. But it mightn't sound as good.

You could also request a quote from Richersounds in their boards forum, to see what alternatives they can come up with.

What is the cheapest I could get a home cinema system that plays HD audio (for Blu-Ray)?

5.1 preferable but I would settle for a 2 speaker plus woofer if it was good enough.

    Any recommended websites?

The main thing is that I can get HD audio.

not sure about small speakers (in general), but as an offer, that price seems good. The 577 is a decent model, and fairly recent too. Seems to tick a lot of boxes feature wise.
