What's with all the blue isolated photos? They're awful!

hah! you'll need to ask the person who took the photos, Fiona who was in the audience.

    I think it's called 'art'...:)

thank you Iain for hosting. It was thoroughly enjoyable. I even enjoyed some speakers that I thought I wouldnt. Hopefully we will see another organised in Galway.

thnx for that. As for #2 ...hmm..we'll see. Hopefully whoever runs it will be able to do what we had originally intended and hold it in a more conducive venue for lighting effects, filming etc. We were planning on using a small theatre but it wasnt available to us. Would need a lot more production support but could be good and might be better at a weekend....anyway...must stop thinking ideas up or I'll be sucked in again! hah!

Will any of the videos be on the TED website and, if so, when?

yup...please see earlier postings...basically though we'll process them over next few weeks and then they'll be online in TEDx youtube channel, linked elsewhere and a message posted here...

What's with the big empty room in the background I thought you where booked out?

  • Registered Users Posts: 59 ✭✭IainML

we were booked out. We were allowed to issue 100 tickets under TEDx rules and we did. They were snapped up. On the day a good few people didnt show. The venue was capable of holding more folk than that so would have looked a bit empty anyway (200 seats) and we wouldnt have turned away anyone who showed up given the space. As to why people book tickets and don;t show? I dunno, but frustrating for those who wanted tickets, I agree. But you'd have to ask them why they didnt come!

Traffic was mental. I left Shannon at 11.30am and got there by 1.45pm because of road works at Gort and also because of how busy the traffic was in the city centre. This could have something to do with it.

Was this recorded and put up anywhere yet?

The poetry and singing one brought as many shivers as it did listening on the day. Much appreciated, Iain, and really hope somebody organises TEDxGalway v2

  • Registered Users Posts: 59 ✭✭IainML

thanks for that...yes amazingly haunting stuff really... As for TEDxGalway 2...well we have some ideas bubbling around based on what we learned this first time through! when they crystallise a bit more we'll pop them up here and see what folk think.

I'd be willing to pitch in to help organise another one if other boardies would be willing to come on board :o... I'm no great leader or organiser but would definitely row behind any initiative... (maybe Iain might lend some sage experience here...)

great thanks..i'd be happy to help form a group, etc...one of the suggestions that has bubbled up here is that many more of the students might be willing to lend a hand in preparations, recordings etc too, perhaps as part of a society or club effort...depends on time of year of course for that....but also keen to make it more of a city event in future too not just a university showcase (though that was always easier for us in terms of low/no cost and all the exciting stuff that's going on here of course)...

so will keep in touch and definitely build on the good wishes and support of folks..thanks

what do you think was the real information revolution in the Victorian age? the Telegraph? Babbage? Think again, as Aileen Fyfe explained eloquently at TEDxGalway

Bravo, Iain. I wasn't around when it was on, so didn't look for tickets, but I still applaud you on the great work you've done.

    Can't wait for TEDx2.

  • Registered Users Posts: 59 ✭✭IainML

thanks...you're very welcome...it was fun to do and nice to explore the issues. There will be a version 2 but it will be some time away as we apply for another licence and have to pick an optimum time of year. I might have some chats with interested people in Aug/Sept sometime with a view to running an event either in winter or spring..much as some would like to have monthly events - that just wouldnt be sustainable! but maybe a nice mid-winter warmer might be interesting...depending on who is available and resources of course.

as for those who like sharing ideas, well there's also always Pecha Kucha nights....! but more of that elsewhere.....

    best
