    +1

Saw Dylan at the point in 2003. Absolute dirt from start to finish. I wouldn't go to see him again if you paid me. I'll stay home and listen to Blood on the Tracks instead...

Saw the Stones a few years ago at Slane and thought they were pretty woeful. Might have just been the acoustics...but I doubt it.

I was at that gig. The RDS is a terrible venue, the acoustics were terrible. As for the band themselves it was pretty much the BC show. Billy was completely full of himself and dragging out United States to 20 minutes long was painfull. But some songs sounded awesome like Stand Inside Your Love, it's a pity the whole show wasn't like this.

I normally only go to see bands i'm into so i've rarely been let down. The only show that springs to mind is Bon Jovi in '95. I'd seen them in the point in 1990 and '93 and they put on a great live show. Went to see them outdoors in the RDS in '95 and they were muck, ended up leaving after an hour and going on the rip in town!

Biggest disappointment to me was Soundgarden at Sunstroke, White Zombie kicked them off the stage.

Was at that gig - probably my least favourite of the sunstrokes. But White Zombie were amazing. I was never much of a fan but they were classic live. Then Soundgarden came out, stood on one spot and droned. Awful
Kings of Leon, O2 last Christmas.. Bored. Just like listening to a CD.

I saw them when they supported the Pixies in Lansdowne Road - they just looked like they didn't want to be there. Terrible live.

I actually enjoyed The Killers debut till I saw them at Oxegen. Woeful so they were.

Guns n' Roses - saw them twice in '06, went to sleep half way through the first time I saw them.

Iron Maiden : The Point : 20th December 2006. Matter of Life and Death Tour. Was waiting for all the classics, but they pulled out the entire record. I was very disapointed to only hear Iron Maiden, Hallowed Be Thy Name, and Fear of the Dark.

Metallica : RDS : 11th June 2006. Escape From the Studio 06 Again, a fairly predictable gig after "The God That Failed", and "The Unforgiven". The playing Master of Puppets in its entirety is not as great as one would have you believe. The element of suprise is one of Metallica's strong points. It took the Wembley gig to fully restore my faith in their live assault.

-All other Tallica gigs I have attended have been superb.

Deftone : Ambassador : 11th July 2006. Dont remember much, save for my constant desire to go home. A boring gig where one song melted into the next, and there was nothing at all to write home about.

Aerosmith at Marlay Park a few years were awful, don't think they actually played a note to be honest...Chris Cornell opened for them and he was even worse!

I was at an Oasis gig* in Lansdowne in 2000 which was dire as well (I'd seen them before & they were good). Nasty crowd too, the atmosphere was more like a football match when things are turning moody than a concert. Metal fans are (generally speaking) much better behaved :)

Do your homework on the Dylan gigs FFS. It's widely known that he doesn't "play the hits like they were on record" anymore, he hasn't done so for about the last, oh I dunno, 35 years. He had changed the lyrics to most of the tracks on Blood on the Tracks by the time he got to the Rolling Thunder Revue in 1975. I see another comment about him "not saying a word to the audience", I've seen him 14 or 15 times and, apart from introducing the band, he only spoke to the audience once in all those shows, 3 or 4 words in Cork in 06. I was at both Point shows this year and thought they were pretty good as Dylan shows go, his voice was clear in the sound mix and the band was tighter than they have been for the last couple of tours. The Galway gig in 04 was also a great performance, he still had Larry Campbell on guitar at that stage and played a good mix of material. Another comment in this thread mentions it being a lucky dip as to whether it's the "disinterested stoner from Live Aid or the blistering Dylan with Band with a few solo acoustic numbers". If it's THE BAND you're referring to, he hasn't played with them since the Last Waltz in 1976, and solo acoustic slots haven't been part of the show for donkey's years. I remember someone telling me they were at a terrible Dylan gig a few years ago, he played too many new songs. I was at the same gig and the number of "new" songs was zero, he played a couple off Love and Theft which was 2 or 3 years old at that stage but almost everthing else was from the 60's and 70's. If you're a fan of Dylan through some of his many "Greatest Hits" albums there's a good chance you'll hate the gigs, if you go with an open mind to hear a fresh take on an incredibly varied back catalogue you will enjoy yourself. Rant over, the gig that stands out as the worst I've ever seen was the Stereophonics in the Point around 2000. I wasn't a massive fan, but I do remember the crowd cheering when their amps stopped working, and when Kelly Jones told the crowd they could either play acoustic or go home he was loudly prompted to do the latter. Also saw Paddy Casey make a fool of himself in Galway one year, Mundy was on the same bill and he had to bring him back on to sing Mexico to appease an increasingly unsettled crowd.

Went to Oasis about seven years ago in New York and fell asleep I was that bored.
Hate to say it but the U2 360 tour Stop at Giants Stadium in New York a couple of months ago didn`t live up to expectations. I m a big fan and but was not impressed at all.

Some of the worst shows i have seen were

The Eagles in the RDS (I managed to fall asleep standing up!)
Billy Corgan's solo rubbish in the ambassador afew years back.
Metallica - well every metallica show or cd cos they are a terrible band.
Kings of Leon @ the Pixies gig,Lansdown RD - they didnt want to be there
Chilli peppers in Lansdown road - the sound was awful.

Some of the best shows i seen have been

James Brown in Vicar Street - The sound and his band were just amazing
Faith No More @ The Olympia was just a thing of beauty to behold.
RATM @ Oxygen - Yes it was oxygen but i had waited 12 years to see Rage so it was pretty amazing.

Have probably seen more good and bad ones but its late and im tired :(

I've only seen Dylan once. Guy with me was at the two unreal 2000 Vicar Street gigs. In Galway. Would like to think im well versed in his back catalogue. I wasn't expecting hits, he hadn't done that in years. I thought the way he had his back to the audience was class personally.
The problem is this wasn't a gig or a show this was a big all day event/ summer concert. And although technically true, i would hardly call mumbled, extended versions of an 1984 b-side a fresh take on "an incredibly varied back catalogue".
You go to a show that you've spent cash on, you expect to be entertained. Fullstop.

I wasn't referring to them at all, just illustrating (perhaps over illustrating) that you don't know what you're going to get with Dylan. I know many of Dylan fans who have handed out a fair few euros on his gigs. And what I hear back is really mixed, from brilliant to poor. Which really has put me off.

Although I'm not an Expert Dylanist I would have a fair handle on his catalogue, and I would actually approve of him digging out some of his more obscure stuff.

As you have mentioned the The Band, they had a concert in the Olympia (I think) during the 80's. My uncle was at the first night and said it was an absolute disaster, they were plastered, badmouthed Robbie Robertson, one fell over on stage. Even the magazine In Dublin ran an article on it saying it was one of the worst concerts by anyone in Ireland. Yet the following night apparently they were fantastic.

... and before Cornell there was the icing on the cake ... THE FEELING :D
was at this, would not be an Aerosmith fan and had free tix but I thought it was reasonably OK for a greatest hits tourist like me, but then again, it was probably formulaic for folks who'd be into them.

Slayer at the point were awful, agreed ( I thought In Flames were great that night, so were Lamb of God [then again, I'm nearly 50 and grew up on metal])
RHCP at the Phoenix pk were awful, agreed (Pixies stole that show for me)
Shpongle at the Roundhouse in London a few weeks ago were not great
The last Stones gig at Slane was awful, the first one was memorable
U2 360 tour at Croker was a waste of money, Vertigo in Cardiff was great
... it goes on forever :)

The first Oxegen they played was 04 on the new band stage. They played the main stage in 05 which was when i saw them. It was a pretty sloppy set from them and Brandon's voice sounded awful. I don't remember the sound quality or their attitute being being that bad though, they did interact with the crowd.

That's a matter of opinion. They are a great live band. Their cd output has been dodgy since "ReLoad", though.

Slipknot supporting Metallica in the RDS 2003. That was horrific. The sound set up was bad, so the bass wasn't in sync with the drums. They hadn't released Subliminal Verses yet but did play Duality. So most stuff was noisy and tuneless. There were these teeny bopper kids at the front telling us that we had to get down and crouch and then pop up for some song. Yea whatever.... Poor lambs were mostly ignored by angry metallica fans. Heh

I love Slipknot, have become a huge fan since then. Haven't seen them live since that concert. Damn. :(

    .

Smashing Pumpkins in RDS a year or two back. (I think hot press gave it one star), i was gutted with how poor this was. :(

Oh!! I was at this. Got pit passes and ended up at the front of the pit but still miles away from the stage. It was so sedate wasn't it? I guess they didn't want anyone to get trampled to death. The crowd were shouting "ZERO ZERO!" and Billy said "We don't play that anymore". What a knob. The fans made you Billy, and we are paying you to entertain us so just play what you're fekn asked to. Won't play the song but still sell Zero t-shirts. Typical. I was off my face at that concert and it was a total buzz kill :(

I remember the goon who climbed onto the mixer, a dead cert for an entry into the Darwin awards ;)

Another band who were disappointing one time were Therapy? at their gig in The Point, Xmas 1995. Now, I've seen them a fair bit but that show seemed like a messy transition to big venues (which they never really achieved). Saw 'em again in the Olympia & the Ambassador which were good gigs.

Oh I almost forgot, The Verve, Slane 1998. Utter rubbish (I'd seen them in the SFX a year earlier and they were excellent).

Looking back on gigs I've seen, most of the 'Metal' bands were always pretty good live. Even the time I saw Saxon in front of 52 people in McGonagles, they still put on a decent show for us.
