Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

my friend was telling me she just bleaches her hair herself and shes never had a problem. it looks lovely too! she said id have no problem doing it myself but im really afraid!! incase i go bald or orange!!
she just uses a packet she gets in boots, and mixes it up herself.
has anyone ever used anything like this or done this?
    all advice welcome!!

Then why bother posting? The OP is looking for people who *can* help.

OP, bleaching your own hair is very tricky and you will most likely need a toner to counteract any yellowness afterwards.

    What's your natural hair colour?

Could you try going to a trainee so the highlights are cheaper?

Id second the trainee - bleach isnt stuff to be messed with - especially if you only have highlights op and your gonna start bleaching it all over??? Its gonna be a big change for you

Have you got highlights or is your hair all blonde? If it's all blonde and your natural colour isn't crazy dark I'd say give it a go. Or maybe ask your friend to do it for you the first time to show you what to do? It's always handy to have someone there to do the back.

I'd suggest the Jerome Russel B Blonde. It comes in 20, 30 or 40 vol. Probably a good idea to use 20 vol if you're a bit unsure, you're less likely to have a disaster. Make sure and do a strand test and a skin patch test, they're explained on the packet. If you have long hair (past shoulder length, the packs dont go very far) get two packs. Or just buy the box with 4 peroxide sachets and individual bottles of developer, it's cheaper.

    haha thanks magenta!! ;)

yeh actually my friend said she uses a toner on it afterwards because its so yellow.
i was going to a trainee but i cant keep it up, especially now im just so broke. the idea of having my hair done for under €20 is just so appealing!!

my hair is naturally a light brown but i was dying it a dark brown before i went blonde, so now its pretty much blonde all over and slightly darker underneath.

OP I was in the exact same boat as you. I bleached mine and toned it so many times but it never looked as nice, it was always yellowish and fake looking and I ended up spending more repeatedly trying to fix it than I would have if I'd just gone to a salon in the first place.
May I throw a spanner in and suggest you dye it dark again- it's so much easier to maintain, it will be in better condition and it will be a change for you- I was blonde for 4 years and thought I'd hate to go dark again but it's great :)

I used to have to bleach my hair all the time when it was pink and there were always different results in colour. I dont know if it was just my hair or if that happens to everyone but i definately wouldnt risk having it as an all over colour! Left my hair in a bit of a state after a few years too!

its all over blonde but its from highlights. iv been getting it done blonder everytime and i do want to go blonder so i wouldnt mind if it was quite drastic just so long as it wasnt completely white.

moonflower, can you buy the jerome russell in boots or would i have to go to a salon services shop?

i might just buy some anyway and do a strand test to see what its like before i decide.

    thanks a mill everyone!!
