Can anyone recommend a plumber in Cork?
The plastic attachment where the ballcock attaches to the water pipe in our toilet has cracked and is leaking. I can't turn off the water to it as the knob on the pipe in the hot press turns around but doesn't go in or out.

Just rang a plumber there and he said the whole system including the water tank and the cistern needs to be replaced
How can he say that without even looking at it?

You can replace it, won't take you big amount of time either.

You can turn this off using a small adjustable spanner. Remove the red handle, and then just turn with the spanner. Are you sure its the correct valve?

Probably hasn't much else work on and hopes to get away with it. You don't to go anything with the storage tank, apart from cork it to replace the gate valve if you say its faulty. When you have the feed to the cistern off, replace the water inlet inside it and that's it.
