Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Original Thread here!

Last year the categories we had were:

    Best Poster
    Most Biased Poster
Most likely to be banned in 2009
    Most Successful Sh*t Stirrer
    Services to Irish Football
    Best Newcomer
Poster Who Always Defends The Indefensible
    Poster Who Left too Early
    Thread of the Year
    Rant of the Year
    Funniest Moment

All of which can be found here!

Would there be any interest in running this again?

Vote accordingly and if the forum wants to do it I have no problem running it.

Also if anyone thinks that we should add a new award just post it and if it gets enough thanks we can put it in?

    PLEASE READ POST 32!!!

Should we run the Soccer Forum Awards again? 78 votes

once people dont take it too serious i think this is a good idea and was good fun last year. wasnt there also a best comeback thread, I remember thinking i could be in with a shout of winning that last year if Estie wasnt about as for some strange reason i couldent access boards when i lived in east london (though every other site worked fine which was wierd) and id pnly just started re-posting at the time, but alas... :)

im too lazy to search but who were the winners last year? iirc now mod Eze won the best poster poll

He won best noob iirc, LuckyLloyd won best poster.

I think it should definitely go ahead, as long as it's not taken seriously enough for awards like most biased poster to cause offence :)

llyod won best poster, eze won best newcomer iirc.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,879 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

aww thats right twas LLyod, strange i think of Eze as being around longer than to have been the best newcomer last year. damn its weird to feel like an auld fellah on this forum on only feckin 24

As I said to Frisbee by PM, I'm happy to help out from the modding side of it but don't have the time to put it together this year.

    +1 from me anyway.

I wasn't on boards last year but it seems like a bit of craic.

I hereby nominate myself for the position of "greatest person of all time 2009".

I have no problem helping out with the moderating side of things either. Let's try and make this civil too, no freak outs if you disagree with nominations! :D
However I will ban you all if I'm not nominated for all the nice ones, and exempt from all the nasty ones..... ;);)

How about 'Best Poster' being renamed as the 'Eirebhoy memorial award for Best Poster'?

  • Moderators, Regional East Moderators Posts: 23,233 Mod ✭✭✭✭GLaDOS

    Sounds good!

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

It was mentioned as an idea for the main boards awards, but I think it is a good suggestion too, considering his involvement in our community

A lot of people touting for newcomer of the year award. God Im going to be knackered from climbing up the stairs to collect my numerous awards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,570 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

Right seems there is an interest so I'll go ahead with this.

Assisted of course by the lovely Xavi6 and eZe^

My idea was to keep this thread purely for the ideas for awards and not the nominations themselves, I'll open another thread for people's nominations.

So If anyone wants to add an award post your idea and we can judge it by the amount of thanks it gets as a post.

I'll leave this thread open until Friday (11th.) so everyone gets a better chance of seeing it, after that then I'll open up a new thread for nominations.

If the forum awards are run, I would like to see the award for Most Successful Sh*t Stirrer done away with.

I think having an award for this essentially sends out the completely wrong message that semi-troll like behaviour is acceptable/welcomed on the forum.

Basically it's seems like it's rewarding posters who add very little to the forum apart from displaying an ability to annoy other posters while simultaneously displaying their abilit to avoid breaking the letter of the law in terms of the forum rules while simultaneously pissing all over the spirit of these rules.

Alternatively if it is retained, have the "prize" for winning this award be a year's banning from the forum.

Frisbee the second link in your OP is broken, is this the one you were linking to?

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055425755&highlight=awards+boards

Can't think of any to add at the moment, though I would like to see names attached to the awards (think this was mooted last year, e.g. the Jimmy Bullard for Funniest Post Award etc).
