    What is Shortening?

I have a recipe that asks for 2/3 cup shortening and 2/3 cup butter, softened. I thought you could subsitute shortening for butter or margerine.... so what should I do?
    Double the amount of butter?

    THANKS! :D

Shortening is hard fat, vegetable or animal in origin.
It makes the crust crumblier, butter won't do I am afraid, head to the store and get some Cookeen.
