Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey,

So i wake up this morning, turn on my desktop and get the usual fan turning on noise but this time the fan just kept getting louder and stronger (sounded like the thing was goin to explode) until it got to 100% and just stayed on, comp not getting any further with booting (don't even get the dell bios screen).

Hoping it'll work when i get home but does anyone know if this is a common fixable problem or what?

btw, its an 8400 Dell Dimension desktop, about 5 years old now

The only time Ive had a fan go Turbine on me was during a BIOS firmware Flash.

But as you cant get into even the BIOS screen, I would inspect the inside of the case and perform a CMOS reset while youre at it.

Had a look inside, couldnt see anything outta the ordinary. Gave it a bit of a hoover while it was open cos it was very dusty. Tried resetting the CMOS as you suggested, following the user manual, but still getting the same thing.

Really hoping it's fixable as i can't afford a new computer atm

Something you could try is reseating the RAM, seen simular problems before, although the fan thing may mean something completely different, could also be the video card causing the problem, although you'd usually get bios beep codes if that was the case..
