The Green Party. WHat Is their Budgetary Role ?

    Apart from their commie carbon tax, does anybody believe that the Green Party have had any serious influence over this budget ?

    Furthermore, they have never even come out to dilute the FF budgetary mantra, nor have they sought to bring forward alternative proposals to mark themselves out as a separate entity in an appalling government. They have remained completely silent, as they have done for the past two years, and we have not heard a peep out of them.

    Surely this highlights the useless nature of the Green Party, as a gelatenous lump of sludge, which contributes nothing particularly beneficial to anything.

    That's how tribal Irish politics has got, people are afraid to disagree with their own party.

    Hard to say really. When they got in I expected them to at least act as a watchdog on certain issues, last years budget was a disgrace on their part, especially regarding the education and health cuts. They should learn to throw their weight around a bit more.

    It seems a lot of the more progressive stuff they have tried to introduce has been watered down by FF, civil partnership rule is the best example of this and the bank levy being turned into a bank surcharge is the latest.

    They got a kicking at the locals because of their inaction in govt. (also because they went in with FF anyway) so it remains to be seen what they will do. Interesting times.

    Now that the majority is less then certain, the Greens should be do what the PDs did between 1989-1992 and 1997-2002. They have the numbers to squeeze FF. However, they are so gutless that they dont have the bottle to do so.
