Seeing as the duty is set to drop today, hurry up north as the savings to be made tomorrow will be less:D:D:D

Actually heard someone say that quite seriously last night !!

Hopefully about €3 - €4 comes off a bottle (€3.63 - €4.84 when you include the vat element.) and prices here will be very close to prices there!

if your that dependent on drink that you have to travel up north to save a few pennies i suggest giving it up altogether. remember, the first thing in the human personality that dissolves in alcohol is dignity.

a bit off topic, but I think they should increase the duty on drink
it's the drink related crime and health problems that are making the public sector wage bill so big, so the drinkers should have to foot the bill imo

No, its the total management incompetence and crazy wages that is making the public sector wage bill so big.
And there is already a large excise tax (and VAT) on alcohol, and this is one of the factors driving the huge problem of cross border shopping.

Seriuos topic but Its the abuse of drink that causes the problems and the situation that has certain people go north and fill cars & vans with alcohol for drinking in a home envirnoment that has no controls and as such is a major probelm.

A reduction in duty won't mean a huge increasa in drinking, but may mean a move back to pubs (assuming they drop thier prices) and a more controlled consumption or at the very least, a lot less bulk purchasing in NI.

probably not the entire reduction. they might lower their prices a small bit, but most owner's will try pocket as much of this reduction as possible.
