5th round of mens world series is this weekend in Los Vegas.
Russia are in the relegation spot currently that we will hopefully be taking in Hong Kong in the qualifier next month. They are 8 points adrift of Spain at the moment.
Latest round was this weekend. Russia still in relegation spot and are now 11 points off 2nd bottom.

Pool draw for hong kong sevens is today i believe.

Of the three groups with my limited understanding I believe we have the softest group.

Group F with Germans and Hong Kong is toughest but yeah ours probably is easier than group E

Not wanting to distract attention from the warm fuzzy feeling of last weekend. Just thought I'd mention

Just 2 weeks to Hong Kong now. How awesome would it be to have Ireland in the HSBC World Series next season on top of All Blacks in November, Defending the Slam and the WC. I love the Pro14 and Champions Cup but I follow the 7s too and I'm excited and anxious about Hong Kong. We certainly got a soft, not sure whether thats a good thing or not?

Ireland in with Uruguay, Jamaica and Cook Islands in their group

Japan, Georgia, Chile and Uganda in one group
Papa New Guinea, Germany, Hong Kong and Zimbabwe in another group

Which of those teams would be Ireland's biggest rival?

As if the Champions Cup SFs are not exciting enough. They are a couple of weeks away. Just 2 days to go to Hong Kong 7s.

If they win what do you think the 7s will do for Irish Rugby?
HSBC world series stop in Dublin or Limerick?
    Olympic Qualification?
    Supporting the Academy systems?

Or just a side act. Nothing affected?

The 7s is already supporting the academy system. I dont see any world series stop in Ireland. World Rugby want to expand game and take game to new markets. Any venue here isnt that.
Getting to olympics would be great as would getting on world series as would allow more players here go pro

Ireland beat the Cook islands in the first game and up 12-0 against Jamaica at halftime in the second

    Decent win over Jamaica

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

Uruguay beat Cook Islands 38-0 similar to our 41-5 result. I think we fared a little better against Jamaica 26-0 but dropped a few passes that would have lead to more tries.

Still I don't expect the Uruguay game to be guaranteed.

Out of the others. Germany had a tough time handling Hong Kong but looked strong. Japan probably looked the best of the rest and a real threat

Edit: hmmm I see Chile beat Japan and Germany dispatched Zimbabwe easily.
