Who got the Paris/London invites in previous years?

    https://www.worldrugby.org/sevens-series/standings/mens

Invite teams are the ones at the bottom who only got ranking points in some events.

But then your saying the Irish 7s team should suffer because if the success of the 15s team that hardly seems fair either given there is no overlap
I would see other nations getting opportunities to play world series as better and fair as we will play in european competition that is far stronger than any other regional competition that is in place bar Oceania.

Ok, but to take that logic, we are at the top of our regional competition, if we want to stretch ourselves we need to be given a chance at world series level. 7s and 15s are a different sport and our 7s are a developing team just the same as other nations.

7s is different but we're only a developing team because we ignored the sport for years.
I would simply rather more countries are given opportunities for world series games especially when we have a far stronger regional competition.
We get them whenever we do reach that level..

Anyway Dublin 7s is on in Belvedere May 25th/26th. Mens and Womens Open 7s. Mens social 7s and a tag tournament.
    Kinsale 7s is May 5th/6th.
    Connemara 7s July 6th-8th.
Midland midnight 7s in Tullamore RFC July 28th

Are there many more 7s tournaments this summer

nothing to be gained by a team from getting hammered on the series and arguably makes the pools lobsided, next highest in qualifiers Ireland/Germany are least likely to get hammered.

+1 to this. Ireland had to go in at the bottom of Europe 3 years ago and had to prove themselves. Even without bias they warrant a couple of invites. Glad to see they are getting them. Sure a few HK pool countries had games against series teams in the Commonwealth Games. How did they do?

Why is it fair for other teams on merit?

To me it makes sense for top Euorpean teams to get invites to European legs of the world series.

Less of a cost base to be covered and more local fan interest.

Ireland had a tough group. Australia, Spain and China all finished 3rd, 4th and 5th. Good win against Spain but poor strategy against China meant they missed out on the Cup QF. I thought they played better rugby than their eventual 10th place. Still, a better result in Paris would mean they will be a Core team again next year and the U18s talent to bring in, hopefully more competitive too.

Men are up in London as an invitational team on June 2-4. Interesting to compare to Japan. Japan finished 13th in Singapore (higher than Russia who are in the relegation spot).

Being a core team is vital. Even more for women considering theyve been there before and keeping it. U18s have done well past few years but may be another few years before theyre ready to bring in. Ladies rugby really needs work on u20s/help for best younger players other than playing ladies AIL which there is only 8 clubs

Ireland finished 6th in Langford and are now 9th in overall standings ahead of final round in Paris on June 8th-10th

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

It was their best result in the series. Last year finished 9th and had an average of 5pts per round after 4, rounds. 9th now just 1 point behind England and average 6, pts per round. On the up. Stacey Flood is proper 7s material

I think it is Germany's top team and Spain's second team just by looking at their rosters at the start of their games.

Ireland to face France at 12.21pm in the semi-final.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,967 ✭✭✭✭The Lost Sheep

Beat France 31-0. Germany in the final

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,191 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Defeated Germany 28-7 in the Final. Terrific performance from the group over the weekend, only conceding that one try that was incidentally a penalty try.

Having Conroy and Kennedy means the side have two guys of great pace on both wings.

Busy schedule ahead as Ireland are a guest side in the final two stages of the Sevens World Series. The London series begins in a fortnight on the 2nd of June. Ireland are in a group with Australia, Spain and Wales. It will be interesting to see where Ireland are in relation to the top teams in the World.

Ireland will also be in Paris the following week in the World Series.

The next round of the Europe Sevens is in France on 30 June and it will also be in Exeter on the following week.

The Rugby World Cup Sevens will take place in San Francisco on July 20-22.

So plenty of Sevens to look forward to, throughout the summer.

Conroy and Kennedy are quick but by 7s standards im not sure?
Obviously focus will be on the world cup but we will still have round of grand prix series at end of summer to play
