Uganda up against Germany 12-7 at half time, would be a bit of a shock if they pull this off

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,208 ✭✭✭shotgunmcos

    Germany just got there 14-12

Ireland had a nervy start, 2 knock on with first 2 possessions, a missed tackle, crooked lineout and ball kicked over dead ball. But prevailed 26-0 against Jamaica who had most of the possession. Hopefully that's the nerves settled

Ireland did well after such a nervy start, Tonga playing fantastic offloading rugby against Zimbabwe 17-0 up at half time and they were a Man down for two minuites

Ya it's actually set up really nicely 2 handy games to settle in and then a stiffer test against russia

    What a disaster

Really struggling out there. Why are we kicking for lineouts? 26-26. Lucky

We are blessed. What a clusterfink

Got a penalty in good position and kicked for lineout which we lost. Never agree with kicking for lineouts in sevens.

Also we stopped passing to conroy.

Humidity a factor? our tackles were so weak in that second half

You'd hope that they where conserving energy for Russia or something really didn't expect that

Let's hope that is the wobble out of the way early this year. Wake up call and onward march to glory

Is it top 2 from each group into quarters?

Yes plus 2 best 3rd place.

That was hard to watch. OK Uruguay were fortunate but we were blessed they missed the conversion as we would have likely faced Germany or Chile in the QF if that went over. We need to improve the defense and give the ball to conroy!

Yes top 2. Lucky Uruguay lost to Russia by so much

In all fairness Germany were shaky enough in both of their games, Chile look terrifying though.

No guaranteed a place in the quarter finals regardless as one of the places for the 2 highest 3rd ranked teams in the pools as there are five teams that can't overtake Ireland.

It’s unfair that one tournament decides all. Should be some form of league basis as anything can happen in a one off match. Humidity I think is a big factor against us and expect Chile to be the team to beat.

    It is horrible.

Part of the beauty of Sevens is that anything can happen in any game. It can be impossible to predict.

But the drawback of this is as you said, it comes down to one moment and it's done.

But having said that, finals are won and lost on single moments

True but the whole 7 series is decided on a league basis and who gets relegated also on a series basis.

Yep its ridiculous that its a one off tournament - it should be accumulated points over a season as this would show the actual most deserving side to be promoted

is serevi coaching Russia in the tournament?

I think money is probably the issue. It was hard enough for Zimbabwe to make it to Hong Kong.

What kind of league would you have? How many rounds? It can be difficult enough to get some teams to just Hong Kong.

Very different though and qualification is ultimately based on regional qualifiers then the world tournament here in hong kong so a league basis...

Accumulated points in what though? Sides not in world series play their regional tournament(s) then this qualifier so what would you have in place to do this?

ireland finished 15th in the series last year despite only playing two events. That itself should have been worthy of promotion. A one off in Hong Kong might not suit them as much if its hot and humid.

They will get there eventually but its annoying if they underperform in one or two games and they have to wait a whole year.
