World Series and promotion to it is usually decided in a qualifying event held during the Hong Kong 7s. We'd have to enter and win that qualifier to get to world series

Just out of curiosity, what is the aim/target/goal of the mens and womens 7's teams now post Olympics, is there a longer term plan in place?

Womens team have competed before on the world series. They were relegated following last years series.
Mens team won division A of the European series. Having won divisions C and B in 2015. They will now compete in the 3 round grand prix series in 2017.

Both sides targets and goals will be making and staying in the World Series as that provides regular high level games and if we were to stay in the series long enough possibly hosting a leg of the world series in the Aviva but that's unlikely IMO as World Rugby will probably prefer newer/bigger markets than Dublin

Murray Kinsella mentioned that Fionn Carr will be involved with the Irish 7s side - he was great at that Limerick 7s in Thomond year or two ago

Fionn Carr should be nowhere near the team... give it to young lads either from the academy or AIL

    Why?

The best thing they can do with this 7s team is push it's standards as far as possible using everything they can. The higher the standard in camp the better the developmental tool it will be

Why? It should be the best team picked and if Carr is better than alternatives why shouldn't he be involved

Carr is playing AIL with Naas, but there better in the league if the looked harder, speed is the main criteria in Ireland, while internationally defence is king,if the first tackle is missed its all over...
