What level are the big teams like England, Scotland etc? Is it their second string guys?

Wouldn't be their first team selection but England have a Sevens academy and all the players would be playing 7s professionally on a regular basis and a few players from clubs also.

Ireland lost the semi final to a last minute try.

Just wondering and this has nothing to do with the match itself but is 7s reffed differently?

    Reffed differently how?
There is variations in the laws

Great to be in and around the finals at this level.

England, Wales, France have second string/academy squads

The breakdown in general. Just wondering. It's not something I've looked into really

3rd place to Ireland 28-5 final score

    Nope, too early, 35-5 :P
Good to see Conroy scoring again on a Connacht perspective

Womens 7s competing in grand prix series stage 1 in france this weekend.
Beat Italy 22-7, Portugal 47-7 and England 24-12 in pool stage yesterday.
Beat Spain 15-0 in Quarter final before losing 14-7 to France in Cup semi final and play England in Plate final

Ladies beat England in Plate Final last weekend so finished 3rd in that round. Next round of games for them is in two weeks time in Russia.
Ladies in pole position for one of the two places up for grabs for next years world cup.

Mens side play in round 3 of the series in Clermont next weekend. They are joint top with Russia and Spain after 2 rounds. Top 2, of sides not already on world series, qualify for Hong Kong 7s in 2018 where they will attempt to qualify for the world series for 18/19 season. We have 36 points from opening 2 rounds of series. Next best in sides trying to qualify for Hong Kong are Germany on 20 and Italy on 18

The top 2 sides not already qualified will also qualify for next years world cup. Russia, Spain and ourselves have not qualified for world cup so we need to finish ahead of both to qualify for that.

I don't watch much 7s. Is it usual for a kicker to be as good as Dardis is at the drop-kick conversions? He seems to consistently get them even from wide out

    Very impressive today.

Their scramble defence was very good to restrict the other sides to just two tries all day.

France looked pretty good today and that is a tough quarter-final game. Spain and Russia as usual look the teams to beat.

Hard fought 7-5 win over the French. Very tough game, and they had to dig deep to win.

Ireland beat Spain a direct opponent, and through the final vs Russia!
Very good game, world series here we come!

Another tough game, did well to cope with Spain's pressure in the first half. Great to have a speedster like Conroy in the team.

Based on this week's results (Ireland finishing either 1st or 2nd), it looks like Ireland have qualified for the Hong Kong 7s with a series leg to spare.

They can head into the last leg of the series knowing if they finish in the top 2 overall out of Ireland, Russia and Spain then they'll also qualify for the 2018 7s RWC.

Final just started, already 5-0 up

    10-0 now and playing well
