    Interesting piece in the advertiser-

A Kilkenny solicitor has been named on the list of tax defaulters which was published earlier this week.

Michael Condon of The Square, Castlecomer, was the fourth highest offender on the list.

There was a total of 76 settlements made to the revenue from the list, bringing the total value of settlements to the Revenue Commissioners to €17,657,150.88.

The list was compiled pursuant to Section 1086 of the Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997, in respect of the period beginning on July 1, 2009 and ending on September 30, 2009, of every person in whose case the Revenue Commissioners accepted a settlement.

Mr Condon made a voluntary disclosure in 2002 to the Revenue Commissioners and 98 er cent of the settlement was made at this time. A further two per cent was paid in July this year.

He was listed for cases of underdeclaration of income tax and VAT and for revenue bogus non resident account.

Mr Condon owed a sum of €304,800 in tax; however he paid interest and penalties of €593,697, bringing the total of the settlement to €898,487.

Mr Condon is a practising solicitor in Castlecomer in County Kilkenny.
