Just wondering was there any new allowances announced in the budget?
There are only 57 allowances at the moment for the garda!

you realise allowances were brought in instead of pay increases down the years ?
The basic wage is extremely low, the allowances bring it up to a reasonable level. Trust me, you won't get rich from being a Garda.

And now the guards are where on the table in Europe for the best paid?

    Is it 2nd?

Sorry I lol, it was funny the way he said it thats all.

But to me it's like the fireman, the everyday Garda on the beat his putting his/her life on the line, there is no possible price one can put on a life.

although there is 57 allowances, no Garda claims 57 allowances. (unless s/he is a dog handling, gun carrying, prisoner escorting, multi language speaking, forensicly trained, helicopter assigned, inspector etc)
I hope you understand that point.
because you seem more interested in starting stupid discussions than reading and learning. ( maybe i could find you a good public service teacher;))

If you don't know what you're talking about, then keep it to your self

and what about private sector workers. I think the average industrial wage is around 33k. Where does that rank in Europe ? Pretty damn high id imagine.

Stop posting trash, you havent a clue what you're talking about.

Nobodys asking to get rich from being a Garda. And im not complaining about the 5% cut i got today, or the previous cuts ive taken to my pay. But this is it, no more cuts, im coming out with under 300 euro a week at the minute.

I said the average wage. As a garda , I dont earn 1200 a week , which is the cso figure that you are quoting for garda average. In fact i earn under 500 before tax

I would like to know where they get those average from, my ex worked in Molex for 8 or 9 years and he was no where near 33K, i also have friends in fabricated products, again no where near 33k and EI, still no where near 33K.

Similiarly, i would like to know where they get the average garda wage to be 1200 a week. I am a garda, and earn under 500 a week before tax

Gards are very well paid on a European average.

as are Irish private sector workers.

    Your point is what exactly?

  • Registered Users Posts: 689 ✭✭✭tudlytops

I believe that there are certain jobs that deserve more then others, if nothing else for the risks they take. eg. Gards on the beat, Fire man, search and rescue (i believe they don't get paid, may be wrong)and i am sure i'm missing a few others.

This people risk their life's everyday for us, sure there are few bad apples but they are every where in every society and every job.

My original point(question) has not changed

    Was there any new allowances?
    Were any cancelled?

Will people stop using Europe as a comparison, you will need to look at everything then, not just wages.

You will need to compare, house prices, food, transport, pensions, health cost, etc, before stating this or that country is better.
