Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Outsourcing E-Mail

    Hi all,

I was asked a question yesterday and thought I'd get some opinions from boardsies.

A company I work with are considering outsourcing their e-mail to Microsoft (open to other companies also)

They have ~150 mailboxes. MS are offering 2.5gb mailboxes @ €8 each per month. Servers will either be in Dublin or Amsterdam.

They can go down that road, or invest heavily in a SAN, servers, Exchange licenses, consultancy fees etc.

What do you think the pro's and con's are of both?

Also, the company is a regulated financial company so security is a big issue.

    Thanks

Does the €8 cover maintenance etc?

Or backups, virus scans. Spam blockers etc etc?

Got any link to this service MS are providing?

You'd want anti-spam, backups etc as a very basic service

Google also offer a business e-mail service but costs a tad more -
    http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/gmail.html

I use it as a home e-mail service as its free for 50 users...obviously doesn't have a business SLA though :D

I would find the google business email very good. Everyone is used to the gmail interface for getting the emails remotely but it also works with outlook. The storage remotely is huge 7424mb currently & you also get them delivered to your inbox locally.

Google offer gmail to business for $50 per year per user. For 150 users that's roughly €5,500 P/Y.

    Microsoft charge (8 x 12 x 150) €14,400

Remote storage for business users is 25Gb per mailbox.

+1 for Google mail. The last company I worked for ran off Google apps and mail. Managing email on-site in 2010 is silly for anyone but huge corpos.
