Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well I've just been inspired by this site:

    http://refashionista.net

She gets hideous dresses for $1 and makes them into cute wearable stuff. I don't think Ive ever seen a skanky dress that cheap in charity shops over here!

I'm still getting used to my sewing machine so just would prefer to mess around with old stuff instead of ruining my new material!

They used to be the main vintage shop in Dublin but I never really see anything I like when I go in there - loads of bright 70's/hippy clothes

I love how she makes them into cute little dresses! i wish i had those skills, as most of the charity shops in my area are full of manky stuff; i miss north west London and the good quality thrift!

Zara worth a look though possibly more casual than you'd like.

A little pricey, but Ted Baker always has great floral shirts. Excellent quality as well http://www.tedbaker.com/men%27s/shirts/list.aspx

It really isn't! I did a huge amount of online shopping in the new year when I had flu and couldn't get outside to the sales. The delivery was all nice and exciting, but it really isn't the same as carrying all the bags home and going through them then :)

I can only really shop on asos cause I only have a laser card. And so far been very disappointed with any clothes ive bought from them, none of them fit nicely!:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,419 ✭✭✭✭jokettle

I've heard that abou asos alright! I've only ever bought a skirt from them once, and it fit fine, but I'd be wary of buying much else from them! It's so much easier to either try stuff on first, or buy from a brand you know for sure will fit you. I miss the days when Urban Outfitters accepted laser on their website!

I bought two asos pieces and one awear piece, awear is as bad, sometimes I take an 8 in their clothes, I am definitely not an 8!! I nought a dress in a size10 and it was massive, my asos size 12 dress was far too small, you just cant win!:p urban outfitters took laser?:(

Ages ago; at least a year I think. I had to borrow my dad's card when I had flu; I couldn't not buy some of the sale stuff!

Does anyone know if the Urban Decay Naked Eyes palette is available to buy in Dublin city centre? Does Boots sell it by any chance? How much is it?

    TIA!

Annoyance of the weekend: New Look in the Jervis centre had a really nice dress yesterday, only size 8, 10 and 18 in stock. 10 wouldn't quite zip up, so wanted a 12. Was in the Square briefly today so nipped into the branch there - exact same stock, size 8, 10 and 18. It doesn't appear to be on the website either. Grrrrrrrr.

I did actually - contacted customer services. Turns out my activation didn't work, so I went back to the activation email, clicked the link again, and all was fine then.

Shipping is based on number of items I think but am not certain - check their Facebook they often have free shipping codes.

Has anyone been watching the drama' South Riding' on BBC1. It's set in Yorkshire in 1930s and the clothes worn by the main character are amazing. I was drooling over her wardrobe on last night's episode.
Here's a link but the player won't work unfortunately

Here's a trailer that I found on youtube

The programme is definitely worth a look if that era of fashion is your thing

I watched the first episode, loved her clothes! Esp the red suit and hat!

Besides that though it looks really predictable and bland and I probably won't watch the rest, and I'm a period drama addict.

Very predictable alright. You can see what's going to happen long before it does. I love the clothes, but if you are into period dramas there's a shortage of heaving bosoms in the 1930s dramas :D

So, John Galliano suspended from Dior for his alleged anti-semitic comments. I never got to see the video as it was taken down before I got to it! Disgraceful behavior though. Natalie Portman is Jewish and the face of Dior Miss Cherie fragrance, she's come out saying she was "shocked and disgusted", and chose to wear Rodarte instead of her planned Dior by Galliano to the Oscars.

I wonder who'll replace him! His designs were fabulous and haute couture to the max, it's unfortunate that he's gone and ****ed it all up.

It's an awful way to end such a fantastic career, Now he will be remembered for being a racist and not his contribution to fashion ridiculous mistake. Natalie Portman has said she will not be associated with him in any way.

Anyone know any fake tans that don't come off in the shower very easily? Going away in a couple of weeks, won't have time to be redoing tan every day. I'm like really pale, so I don't want it to be very dark...less translucent white would be good :P

I have 3 of 'em and they're not bad. That said, I would invest in Rimmel before OPI as I find the brushes way better and the consistency less water-y. Not bad, but not great.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭Hermione*

I saw the Off the Rails book on sale in Eason's after Christmas for €1 and very nearly bought it for the pictures. The advice was so awful and generic that even €1 was too much to pay for it!

I find Sonia Lennon a bit overbearing I saw her on the model scouts giving style advice and she came across very badly, I think it's a pity it's thew only style show on RTE and it's absolutely desperate, No wonder people think Irish people have no fashion sense. There is a host of young presenters who could give it an edgier feel.

I didn't like what they did to that woman's hair at all, and I thought the make up they put on her eyes was too dark and practically made her eyes disappear.
Plus, what was with the spring/summer tip bit? Most of the stuff was ridiculously expensive! Like a dress for 6 hundred euro. I doubt there were many people watching who'd want to or be able to spend that much on one item of clothing.

Her eye make up was awful! Her hair was lovely the original colour, all it needed was a stylish tidy. And the husband. Well, my god, I don't know what to say! They're working, young, parents, should they not have given them better advice for day to day? I mean, the dad is hardly going to wear his pink cashmere sweater and loafers down at the park, or bringing the kids to school. And she's not gonna wear shorts and four inch heels doing the shopping. There definitely needs to be more practical advice, as well as the glam side.

Yep, way too expensive. Fair enough show us the cat walk inspiration, but then let us know where to find one for cheaper :pac:

Exactly! Her hair was much nicer lighter. Oh, I know! The husband! I couldn't believe some of the stuff they were putting him in - those cream chinos with the sweater and the blazer! He looked way older than he actually is, and it was just so... wrong!

Or the under fifty euro look. Sonia's wasn't even under fifty 'cause she didn't include the price of the shoes, just the top and skirt and I thought it was awful anyway!
