I'd say he'll more than make up for it with all the immediate "f**k you Go-go!" remarks he gets the next time he's canvassing!:pac:

That Dáil is a joke. Stagg called a quorum 3 or 4 times yesterday to slow things down and it worked cos all of the deputies had abandoned ship. If the government were half serious about getting things done they'd all be there or at least arrange adequate cover.

As for Gogarty, it was no more an outburst than it was a tirade. Premeditated, and immediately withdrawn - if he was really so cock sure it was the thing to do he should not have apologised and taken his medicine.

What a pussy. The greens are banjaxed anyway methinks - at least he'll be famous for something.

it was great..it's about time someone said just exactly what the people are thinking.
Deputy stagg the kerb crawling loser.

    What a ****head.

That was a pure publicity stunt. He should of called him a c*nt instead. Imagine Anne Doyle reading that out on the news.

Would have been funny if there was an audience in there to react to him...he would have gotten more attention in a church on a weekday.

He did say it with conviction though!

Seriously that's a legend - He has my vote next time.

Being a politician looks like a pain in the hole. He's trying to give his side of things and those morons Stagg & Shortall wouldn't STFU when told. Can they not control the politicians? He'll take flak for his outburst but I think he was dead right to have a go. Shouldnt the CC not have intervened when they basically accused him of lying???

There is a need to install a mod cp in there! :pac:

Maybe it was because he was, in fact, truly sincere...?

I think more likely that he's a joke of a politician who is well aware his party is totally ****ed for supporting and indeed being part of the inane group of limp dick losers who make up our government.

My guess is Stagg's comment hit the mark, and hurt because it was accurate. Why else would he react?

Maybe it was because he was, in fact, truly sincere...?

It would be like your mother dying and someone saying that you were never close to her... and it could have been so untrue that ya just want to tell them to GO F**K OFF!!

Fair play to him I say. The man's got balls.

I think it's more like someone asking why you killed her, and not wanting to debate the matter (perhaps unable to) you just start shouting like a child.

I was going to say "why you didn't attend/pay for her funeral" but i think you extended the analogy adequately. :D
    What a fool.

I can't believe people are voting yes because he said **** you, the guy is a spa, he's part of a spa party.

I think in this respect he is standing up for the blind politicians who miss the ****ing obvious, like himself, the dildo.

Excellent: I believe the standard of debate in the Dail has to improve when people playacting for the crowd are called on it, and given the abuse they deserve.

Everyone knows 4 billion was the minimum that had to be cut, everyone knew they were going to have to hit social welfare, everyone knew it was going to be "unfair".

Gogarty did Ireland and political discourse a favour. Pity more politicians cant be as direct and honest.

Of course, 4 billion has been pumped into the Anglo Irish black hole. And it's hard to sound badass when you lisp like Jedward (incidentally, I think I saw one of them in Ranelagh this evening, do they live around there?)

Of course, never forget, they're are a bunch of out of touch communist morons spouting popularistic tripe.
The Irish Labour Party, communists? They struggle nowadays to be an inch left of centre.
Them, on the other hand... they're just spouting hot air to make the people vote for 'em.
Unlike FF have for the entirety of their existence.

Because TDs don't have to show up every day, only a certain amount a month. That's because they're a complete ****ing joke they're out spending their ridiculous salaries attending public events and doing other busy work.

I think they can watch it on TV in their offices. Of course, Dáil debates are turgid and meaningless as virtually all legislation is made by the Cabinet.

The idea is that they are out actually doing the work they were elected for instead of debating things in the dail. It annoys me when people give out that they aren't present in the dail, surely it suggests they are actually working. However sometime I do wonder myself...

Well, actually, their job is to be legislators, the lobbying stuff they do is informal.

Of course if it were the other way around you'd still have people complaining that politicians spend all their time in the Dail and as a result are out of touch with the people they're supposed to represent or some other type of meaningless bullshit like that.

This just gave me an idea, how about installing that video conferencing solution that was seen on the apprentice in the dail chambers in time for next years budget, then we can all log in using our webcams to say "eff you mr. lenihan, eff you", it'd be like a chorus! :D

sidenote: that phrase is going to replace "waaaaaazzzaaaappp!"...

This may be heresy, but over the past few years, I have come to the view that, as a nation we are incapable of administering/governing ourselves as a country.

This latest piece of idiocy from Gogarty emphasises the view that this nation elects idiots.
A nation of idiots, electing idiots.

We should seriously consider handing back the keys to London and say "sorry about that lads, the past 90 years has shown that we cannot manage ourselves - will you take us back, please"

Gogarty - A sad little man with very little class. Once again, this story is probably going around the world and people are having a good old laugh at little old Ireland.

The voting public made this guy a TD. What does that say about them?

is that really the standard of the sitting dail? Surely this barrow-boy/thug should now resign? If this guy is not able to have a debate without losing his cool and hurling abuse at other members he should now quit gracefully or at least without further profanity, brian cowen of course started this acceptance of gutter language and it seems now this is the future of debate in irish politics?

I agree, as proof I provide Paul Gogarty for Taoiseach, which tbh is in no way surprising.

The easy way to counteract what you describe is 5 year maximum governments. After that the whole lot must go to the back benches and if they are lucky enough, their party will be re-elected and another bunch of tds will be put in place of the government. Although, that will mean the talented cannot be re-used, which isn't very desirable either I suppose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,167 ✭✭✭Notorious

Why did he withdraw it so quickly? Seems kind of premeditated to me.. he wanted to cause a furore

Agree'd. I've heard a few people say that he was looking for a ban from the Dail so he didn't have to vote on something he disagreed with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,017 ✭✭✭Leslie91

Gogarty is just like all those other green loo lahs. They get a sniff of what it is like to be in power ala FF and will do anything to keep their jobs. Like FF please God they will be wiped out next election. Shower of wasters if u ask me. How intelligent did Gogarty come across, not very, and how much are we paying this moron?.

Only good thing was he said it to that Stagg lad, how the F is he still in the Dail what with his history up in the park. F me, we are a laughing stock of a country and the ones laughing at us are the politicians who know we can do F all about what they decide to do.

Not to mention that there'd be no continuity in anything and nothing would be done!

Anyway I say fair play to him he tried be polite but Stagg kept going at him. It's nice to know some of them actually give a toss.

In fairness, Stagg's possible sexual history has nothing at all to do with his performance in politics. When it comes to screwing the vulnerable, Gogarty's side have more questions to answer.

Nothing possible about it. He got himself a blow job while out cruising in the phoenix park. And got caught for his trouble. I heard that from the horses mouth so to speak...

The chap he was caught with is a friend of a friend. Kept us entertained for the night, oh how we laughed. Poor sod...
