Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So we're one up. This is the most dangerous moments in the game to us recently. We play well, are generally on top, go one nil up and then just stop playing!!

what about the penalty we had turned down

it wasn't a penalty, it would have been if gerrard didn't pull off his usual jump and throw hands in the air while looking back at the ref at the same time

Arsenal need to get a striker on and get some width on the pitch.

Liverpool well worth their lead to be fair. arsenal need to up their game in the 2nd half and show a lot more hunger

Playing fantastic, if Torres was a bit sharper and the ref gave correct decisions it would be over already.

gerrard clearly got taken out, even if he did jump and throw his hands in the air how does that not make it a penalty.. is there now a standard penalty routine that you have to know in order to get a penalty?? gallas took gerrard out it doesn't matter what gerrard did when going down it doesn't change the fact that gallas clearly took him and got no where near the ball..

Should be ahead by more, playing well.

Very good performance so far from the pool

Arsenal look a bit toothless in attack but I'd definitely want a second

    just in case

so basically what you are saying, just so i get this straight, is that if masch had've put his hands up looking for a free when denilson drop kicked him it wouldnt have been a free?? hmm..interesting

Liverpool are immense today. Let's hope they approach the second half in the same fashion and get an early second goal. They are showing these young guns up completely in all areas of the park. Arsenal can hardly string a pass together.

howard webb has proven again that his reputation of being the prems best ref is ridonkulous. he has given crazy decisions for frees to both teams and missed easy decisions for both teams.

    Mascherano is playin a blinder

Liverpool deserve that tbh, Arsenal's passing (and more importantly Fabregas) has been awful, really awful, but my God, most of the time Kuyt is painful to watch, I'd rather watch darts or something. :p

There actually is a perfectly legitimate argument for it. A deliberate arm out like that can be considered violent conduct if it makes contact with the player. I remember quite clearly that Sol Campbell was sent off for the exact same offence against Solksjaer a few years ago and the ban was upheld after appeal.

Anyway, it's moot. Liverpool deservedly in the lead, and probably should be 2 or 3 goals up, although a wee bit lucky with how the goal actually came about. Mascherano absolutely dominating the midfield, although Gerrard and Torres have been a bit wasteful imo.

Arsenal on the other hand have been absolutely shocking. Some of the worst passing i've ever seen from them. They seriously don't look bothered.

Christ how did webb not give that pen. Just seen it at half time. He had the clearest possible view.

    Losing his marbles this year.

Really missing Van Persie up front, hopefully we take the few chances we get but it is looking unlikely we will get many, it only takes a second to score though so I wouldn't write us off just yet ;).

Great display from Masch and Lucas in the middle so far. Should be much further ahead, Torres looking rusty and Benny and Gerrard not at their best either. Worrying that we haven't got 2 already, Arsenal can't be this bad for the whole game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,435 ✭✭✭ilovelamp2000

That's a good opening 45 mins for us.

What have Arsenal got on their bench ? I expect them to make some changes fairly soon, we've contained them pretty well thus far. We're winning most of the 50/50's as well so we need to keep that up.

I hope we don't sit back in the second half and allow Fabregas the time and space to dictate things.

I always believed Mark Halsey to be the best ref in the Premier League

If Masch is fine to play out the 90 mins, I would be taking Lucas off at the hour mark to give Aquilani 30mins to zip the ball about whilst having Masch on the pitch to do the biting.

Good first half for Liverpool they deserve their lead, I wouldn't be too hard on Almunia, Lucas made it difficult for him. Torres obviously not match fit but his injury appears to be sorted. The same applies to Gerrard, he stretched for a ball early on that could have done the groin again if it wasn't right.

The Gunners will have to go for it second half, overall it's been a good game so far.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,983 ✭✭✭✭NukaCola

    From BBC Website

"Dirk Kuyt may not be everyone's cup of tea, but when he scores it is generally good news for Liverpool. In the five matches he has scored this season Liverpool have won all of them and their aggregate score is 14-2"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,570 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

Liverpool fully deserve their lead and are unlucky not to be 2 or 3 up.

Arsenal look absolutely spinelss and Cesc has so far pulled another one of his big game disappearances, yes he's picked out a few good passes, but that's not good enough from your teams start player in a big match like this.

Eduardo has been awful so far this season but we need to get him on.

Preferably for Nasri and put Arshavin out left, we have absolutely no width that side and Pool have realised this.

What you don't see from the replay is how far ahead of himself Gerrard kicked the ball. Even though it was a terrible tackle, by the time Gerrard starts falling, the ball is already well out of his control, so technically there was no advantage to lose. Some ref's give those, some ref's don't. It's something that needs to be cleared up in the rules.

Arsenal never have any width. It's basically a goalkeeper, back 4, 5 centre mids, and Theo Walcott (who is shit).

the pool deserve the lead but its really frustrating handing them a goal the way we did.

There is no 'advantage to lose' in the rules, technically or otherwise. A foul is a foul, if the ball is gone, it's just a late foul.

The rules are clear. The location of the ball is irrelevant.

How has Arshavin been able to win headers in the box against Agger and Carra??
