Was playing GT mode for a while. Bought a Celica. (Jaysus) Did the first licence but what is the story with not being able to control the car in races?

Do you have to get to a certain level or what? Kinda pissed me off a bit.

Ah right, is it sturdy enough. What wheel do you use?

Driving force GT. Its sturdy enough but i have to midify it a small bit with a saw because the center of gravity changes massivly when the wheel is clamped on to the very edge so it knocks over easily.

Ill saw off a small bit so the wheel is clamped closer to the stand/center of gravity so it wont fall over as easily.

Plenty of room too for your legs/ pedals and your height wont be a problem as its fully height and tilt adjustable.

Thanks Hogzy. I think I'm gonna pick up that combo tomorrow!!

I had the same but once I signed into PSN it asked me to download the 166mb update then I had the option to install on HD

Yep. Sometimes there seems to be a 30 second or so delay before the cursor appears.

Got the game this afternoon and all i can say is wow just wow. Besides the menu being a wee bit slow it get's 10/10 from me.

It's a server issue, the game is trying to update the news ticker etc and can't as the servers are getting hammered, so then it just hangs until either it connects of fails to connect. If you sign out of the PSN you won't have that issue. You can sign back in once you get into the sub-menu you're looking for.

Awesome! thanks for the tip man! ;)

My PS3 actually crashed when I tried to play online... had to force a shutdown. :(

You can, but it doesnt seem to work for online races... :(

Speaking of online, only had 2 online races but while it seems like a great set up for organising races with your mates, and I enjoy the server browser style I'm used to from PC games , the two races I had were total bollocks.

    Civics versus zondas.

I hope theres a way of confining it to similar classes of cars..

Another issue I had was joining a server and not being able to join the race, which is bad enough in itself, but also not being able to do ANYTHING but chat. I can't even leave the server , it just plays that "oh no you don't" sound effect for every button except chat. Can't join a race, can't edit settings, can't watch race, can't leave the server can't view the garage etc etc etc.

I had to ask the guy to kick me from the room as I didnt wanna have to quit the entire game.

Loving the top gear track although it took me feckin aaaaages to unlock the damn thing, I'm not much of a racer and found getting 1st place in the hippy van race to be very challenging. You have to drive perfectly to manage to over take 11 other hippy vans in 2 short laps. Really started to hate that race, until I won and it felt exhilarating.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,818 ✭✭✭Minstrel27

I managed a second place in that combi van race on the top gear track. It's tough enough as a mistake really will cost you and it is so sllllllllooooooooooooooooowwwwwwww.

Good tip on the slow menus, I will be playing with the PS3 offline in future.

Why can't game companies not anticipate the server demands on a hugely anticipated game?

I just went and got all gold in the B license first, then did abit of karting and nascar. Really liking it so far. I'm liking the experience levels that they stole from Forza but a nice touch would have been suggesting a car from your garage you can use for a race instead of having to go all the way back to the garage.

Theres a sub menu setting to the bottom right of all race events that brings up your garage and you can pick a specific car from that and once you change cars the event you had bene looking at is still right there.

No going through miles of menus.

Christ that first top gear track with the vans is a pain in the arse. Managed to get up to second, then hit a cone on second last corner and was disqualified!

Very frustrating, Ive only managed to get a bronze on it so far, I was upto about 3rd or 4th and cliped an inside cone on the 2nd lap on Hammerhead, baaaaam, disqualified. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭Sisko

On the lap where I finally came 1st there was a moment where I was about to take over the 1st van but then realised I'd end up getting disqualified (yet again) so I hung back behind him in the slip stream until the corner was past then over took him on the last straight. Being in his slipstream guaranteed I'd have more speed then him on the straight and could over take.

I would always restart the race if I had not over taken 3 vans by the 2nd corner. Another 2 by the S bend, doing this usually put me in a position to then slipstream up past another during the next 2 straights. Then 1 or 2 more just before gambon.

Then I'd be chasing the remaining pack and should be able to over take them to get to 2nd place at the very same place I over took the 1st 3 (right after the 1st corner). Putting me in 2nd place and catching up on the 1st place van just before the S turn.

If I failed any of those steps I knew I wasnt gonna make it so would restart.

I like the driving in it, cars feel more real I think :)

Im just wondering though are most of the 700-800 cars from GT4 that were carried over to this game in the Used Car section ? Cant seem to see Opel in the Dealerships either

They pretty much are.All the GT4 cars are used while all the shiny GT5 premium cars are new from the dealers

Just a heads up on second hand cars. An Altezza Touring car just appeared for 30k:eek:. Only 300 odd hp but can take a stage 3 turbo to bring it to 380 and windows weight reduction. It's fully modded so can be tuned. Currently whipping ass against 650hp+ cars in the Pro SuperCar Festival because of the downforce in corners.

The oil light came on, forgot to do the usual with a second hand car. Dammit I love this game.:D

An oil change gave it another 8 hp while an engine overhaul did nothing.

well ths is just great - had the game running of the disc since I've gotten it and it was running perfectly - decided the load times were too long so i went to download the update and installed - after an hour I decide to start the game up and now whenever I attempt to start a race the game just freezes completely - anyone got any idea why or it is just me :mad::mad:

Disconnect from the PSN maybe? That's the solution i seem to be hearing for everything GT5 related.

Unfortunately for me, I got the Signature Edition. One of the staff in Dawson Street store was wearing a Gran Turismo t-shirt, so I asked did they have any, and he gave me one. Sweet.

I'll be wearing it to the Top Gear show on Sunday, cause my mate bagged some free tickets.

The Elise on the Top Gear track is fuppin horrible. It's incredibly wishy washy, it feels like you're driving on ice and the rear just loves to spin out if you apply any amount of power. I really can't see how I'll win this race.

I haven't seen any weather effects or damage yet. Are these 'unlocked' or do they need to be 'turned on'?

Just once more..... that f*ckin' Elise on the Top Gear track- awful.
