Nice that IndyCar is in it, just hope they add a decent number of tracks since they seem to have all the cars but only 4/5 tracks with NASCAR.

Trouble with all this is that I'm gonna need a steering wheel to play this game. Hope it's not out for a while, won't have the funds til the summer anyway.

Well I can only go on my own racing experience and also quite a few of my racing mates agree with me in thinking its rubbish. I dont know about the German chap above but I am a resident instructor down in Mondello so I have a fair bit of experience I`m not saying I`m amazing but I know how to get a car around a track.

The handling just doesnt feel right and if I was testing a race car that handled like the demo car I wouldnt touch it with a barge pole.

I gotta agree though I can't add that much weight to the argument. If I thought for a second that driving a car was like it is in GT5 I'd never even try to drive. I've never met anyone who couldn't pick up Forza within a half hour, GT5P on the other hand is horrific. Maybe it's the controller but I just can't play it. 1 mph too quick into a corner and either run 20 yards wide or spin while trying to apply a slight correction. I know reality=hard but in GT5 I just can't get into it.

Incidentally, the same car in Forza or one of the PC titles like rFactor - does it feel more realistic there?
(genuine query, it comes across as snotty but it's not, honest!)

I havent tried a 370z in rfactor and I think its more a physics modelling issue rather than the car. The next time you play it purposefully get the car to step out in a big way and over-correct it. Just watch the way the car reacts, doesnt seem natural to me. But it is just a demo so I will be waiting for the full version!

Considering it's not in race mode and more an ad for Nissan and the GT team as much as a tech demo, there's a good chance the engine was "tinkered" with to suit Nissans requirements.

Either way, I'm ultra excited about this game. Moreso then I was for Forza, and I was hyped up over Forza :D

what camera angle do you use? if your using the chase camera i know exacly what you mean, it does look all wrong. try the bumper or interior view for a while if you haven't already.

Theres a new demo doing the rounds which showcase a few different tracks and more cars to try. On a few sites, they also show a McLaren F1 and Gallardo Balboni.

Seems like the news is coming thick and fast. Surely the marketing can now be considered under way and hopefully that means that we should have GT5 to play, hopefully in about 3 months.

Its a shame car handling isnt on that list, I dont care how many 24hr races the creater of the game has completed the cars in the demo dont handle right. The way the car oversteers is shocking, the car doesnt break traction it just goes and then when it snaps the car rapidly picks up speed. That doesnt happen in real life.

Theres nothing wrong with the handling, if you take bends at 60 70 80 90mph, and start getting trigger happy with the brake clutch or accelerator, u will lose control.

The nissan 350z in the demo is rear wheel drive also! and when you use the PS3 dualshock pad just tapping square once quickly, is pretty much going from no acceleration to max acc. back to none in a 0.01 seconds, the same applies to the steering, with the controller you can go from lock to lock in maybe 0.04 of a second! Thats gonna give a car some serious insatbility in the middle of a bend where the car is already on the edge of its grip circle.

I bought the wheel a week ago and the game has transformed, its nowhere near real, but its alot closer than using the pad because it is so much more accurate for controlling a car.

If you love racing games buy a wheel cos when you play with the pad its as if you are stamping on the brake and accelerator every time and you have super human mucsle arms which can rotate the wheel 2.5 times lock to lock in the blink of an eye.

I've been a fan of GT since the 1st version with the TVRs and twin turbo Mistsubishi GTO, got the wheel for GT4 and couldn't get use to it, there's no doubt that the analogue control is better but I can't stand using the wheel.

Is there anyone else would isn't happy with using the triggers (L2 R2) for brakes and accelerator, I don't think there's any money in making a controller with depressable X and square to simulate pedals.

After using the Logitech DFGT for the past month i could never go back to playing Gran Turismo with a controller. There is so much more feedback you get from a wheel and pedals. Since my PS3 bit the dust ive been testing out the DFGT in GT4 and it works brilliantly.

For anyone who has the wheel and GT4, try out the Test IA-16 - Graduation Test in the Nissan R92CP Race Car '92. On the straights the force feedback is incredible.

How much did the wheel set you back? I'd love to have a wheel setup some time, but would have to do it right which might cost a bit.

the wheel was pricey as i never shopped around and went straight to Argos to get it. 120euro. Seen as im a racing game man it was worth the investment. I dont have a fancy setup to hold the wheel. I actually use my bedside locker! I clamp the wheel on top and pull out all the drawers to place the pedals inside. Works perfectly! :D

i was on for a 1.48.9 in the normal car twice last night with an hour left but lost it both times in the last few bends :( but the fastest pad time is nice even though that alanG guy seemed to give up on it.

you have a great chance if you go to the finals judging by how fast you got in no time at all with the wheel. you were taking huge amounts of time off in the last few days.

@acoyne: its on the playstation store.

I know its sucks being up a couple tenths faster then slipping around on the s-bend or last bend!:(

Yeah i signed up, but they dont send any confirmation e-mail or anything.
What about you did you sign up? Your in the top 20.

It was weird that alanG just stopped alright cos i sent him some messages on PSN b4 xmas, and he seemed fairly serious about it all. He was telling me has been playing prologue for years and telling me how it was so hard to get good times with the pad, cos its sooo hard to accuratley accelerate out of a bend.

If you play racing games u shud get the wheel cos it is so much better, but it took me over a week to catch my pad times. argos are selling dfgt for 120

There was a time trial for F1 2001 on ps2 years ago i came 1st in eire and 8th in world, and even though i didnt win on the day the top 20 guys got 2 free games and all sorts of playstation gear just for being there! so i hope we get some cool stuff this time for just for turning up, :)

Just got posted on the playstation blog Loads of pics etc here

I am absolutely delighted to be able bring what will hopefully be very exciting news to those patiently (or impatiently) waiting for more information on Gran Turismo 5. During E3, our American colleagues unveiled their rather tasty looking Collector’s Edition. Today I can now confirm the special editions of Gran Turismo that will be heading Europe’s way later this year.
First up, we have a very special version of the game; one that, with its artfully sculpted exterior, glossy black finish and meticulously designed premium content, exemplifies everything the Gran Turismo brand has always stood for – beauty and precision.

This version of the game is known as the Signature Edition and the recommended retail price will be €179.99. It contains a whole host of exclusive additional content, which is listed below.
Metal sculpted box finished in SLS AMG Obsidian Black
Exclusive GT branded SLS AMG 1:43 model car
GT leather wallet containing Signature Edition competition entry card
Branded USB key with Polyphony/Mercedes-Benz trailer
    GT branded metal key fob
Signature Edition coffee table book featuring the beautiful cars and locations of Gran Turismo 5
200 page Apex drivers magazine with hints on driving technique, car tuning, future technologies and more

This is in addition to five ‘ChromeLine’ Collector’s Edition cars plus six ‘Stealth’ vehicles, both featuring enhanced performance and liveries and an exclusive dynamic theme.

A dazzling array of content, I’m sure you will agree, but what makes this very special of special editions, well…very special, is a rather unique competition. Those lucky enough to get their hands on the Signature Edition (quantities are going to be strictly limited) will be able to enter an extraordinary competition that will combine in-game and real world driving challenges – the prize at the end of these two stages? A real Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG supercar.

That’s right; through a combination of meeting challenges in-game within Gran Turismo 5 and then subsequently pulling all the right moves at the AMG Signature Edition driving school, you could win what Kazunori Yamauchi himself has called the “most exciting car in the world right now”.
To have a chance of getting your hands on the prize, you’re going to have to be 18 or over and hold a full driving licence. Full competition details will be made available at gran-turismo.com shortly.
    The Signature Edition competition will be open to residents of the following countries;
UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Greece, Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, UAE and Saudi Arabia.
It could well be time to get saving.
Next up for something slightly less exotic but certainly no less exciting, alongside the Signature Edition at launch we will be offering the Gran Turismo 5 Collector’s Edition. This version of the game will have a recommended retail price of €79.99.

The Collector’s Edition features an exclusive commemorative #5 slip case. It also shares special edition inlay art with the Signature Edition.
What’s more, not only do you also get the same dynamic theme as in the Signature Edition, the same set of five ChromeLine vehicles, and also the Apex driver’s magazine, you also get five collectible artcards featuring beautifully rendered images carefully chosen by the team at Polyphony.
And if that lot hasn’t got you going then the final piece of the jigsaw just might. Alongside the special editions of the game, I can now unveil the 6 highly covetable pre-order cars that will be available in those countries with PlayStation Store.
All of the 6 pre-order vehicles in what Polyphony has titled the ‘Stealth’ range feature both performance and livery enhancements to give you that little extra edge in-game.
    Here’s the line up:

I hope the exciting packages that we have unveiled here have whet your appetite for the fifth proper Gran Turismo game – so which special edition to choose? Decisions, decisions…
There will be more information to come on all of the above and of course plenty more news to come on Gran Turismo 5 itself. Without a doubt it’s going to appear here, at eu.playstation.com and on gran-turismo.com so keep checking back.

Regular or maybe collectors for me.

The signature edition is a bit too rich for my blood, but I'd love to have it otherwise. The car they're giving you a chance to win with that is worth nearly 200k AFAIK, so that's a pretty good competition.

It's a damn pricey raffle ticket though.
