Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo: The fastest in football - German study
    Former Devil has red hot pace...
    11 Dec 2009 17:40:42

    Players

    * Wayne Rooney
    * Cristiano Ronaldo
    * Arjen Robben
    * Robin Van Persie
    * Lionel Andrés Messi
    * Theo Walcott

    By Cyrus C. Malek

    "Is it a bird? Is it a plane?...No, it's Cristiano Ronaldo." The Portuguese flyer is the fastest elite player in world football according to a study conducted by the weekly German magazine Der Spiegel.

    The study indicates that, in his boots, Cristiano Ronaldo is the fastest elite player in the world, reaching an average speed of 33.6 kilometres per hour (20.88 mph), a quality he uses to full effect by blowing past defenders.

    According to the study, Ronaldo supercedes Bayern Munich's Arjen Robben (32.9 kph), Arsenal's Theo Walcott (32.7 kph), Manchester United's Wayne Rooney (32.6 kph) and Arsenal's Robin Van Persie (32.1 kph). Barcelona's Balon d'Or winner Lionel Messi did not rate amongst the top five fastest players.

    CR9's blazing pace has already been well documented, former coach Sir Alex Ferguson having claimed that "Ronaldo is just as fast with the ball as he is without it... maybe even faster".

    Should he train with his good friend and multi world-record holding sprinter Usain Bolt, Cristiano could soon further increase his speed as he has expressed interest in working with the Jamaican and has already received advice from the sprinter with respect to efficiently using one's centre of gravity.

    Barca to beat Espanyol by 3 or 4 and Valencia to beat Madrid with a Villa + Mata brace. Can see goals in that one. 4-2

    Madrid playing surprisingly well here without Ronnie and Kaká, unlucky not to be in front by now.

    Pepe left the field crying after injuring his knee. Missed it but sounds like his season might well be over.

    Higuaín outshining Benzema again. No way back for Raúl.

    This is looking like it's gonna be only Valencia's second defeat and first at home.

    Pepe hit for six

    Real Madrid have suffered a major blow with the news that Pepe is set to be sidelined for six months.

    The defender has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and needs surgery.

    The 23-year-old suffered the injury in Real's last-gasp 3-2 win over Valencia on Saturday after landing awkwardly following an aerial challenge.

    He was stretchered off just prior to half-time and was replaced by Ezequiel Garay at the start of the second period, who went on to net the winner.

    A statement on the club's official website on Sunday said: "An MRI at Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital earlier today confirmed that Pepe has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

    "The player will undergo surgery in the upcoming days and is expected to be sidelined for six months."

    Pepe's injury leaves Madrid with just three recognised centre-backs in Raul Albiol, Garay and Christoph Metzelder, although Sergio Ramos can also play in the middle.

    Real Madrid general director Jorge Valdano confirmed the Spanish giants will consider entering the transfer market again in January to find a replacement.

    Big blow for Real. No doubt Perez will splash the cash once again. If Perez can find a top class CB in January then Pepe could find it immensely difficult to get a look in.

    ^^

    That's a massive blow for Portugal aswell!

    In other news, Atlético sit just 1 point above the relegation zone after conceding a last minute winner at home to Villarreal. They'll have serious troule trying to hold onto Forlán and Aguero in the summer!
