Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Not really at all. Theres a pretty large difference between saying something which isn't a direct answer to the threadtitle, and conducting an entirely different discussion which would get a 20+ page thread if someone made it.

    Source?

Isn't backseat modding just as much a breach of rules as taking a thread off-topic?:)

I suppose that does kind of come under that term, wasn't meant as such.

MON sure Dunne got himself a bargain alright. Signing of the season imo on performances thus far.

    Darren Bent imo

    I agree that it's funny.

    a couple of stats:

Man City have 4 clean sheets this season. 2 of those were the 2 games Dunne played with them.

Aston Villa have conceded 11 goals in 13 games since signing Dunne.
Man City have conceded 21 in 12 games since selling him.

Delighted for Dickie Dunne. He has stuck his two fingers up at the club that turned their back on him. Fantastic signing. I said so the moment he went that he would be a hit. He is no doubt up there amongst the best signings of the season. Bent was a great signing too but he did cost a pretty penny (10-16.5 million). Cana and Krancjar at 5 and 2 million respectively were absolute snatches too. Any of those could be classed as signing of the season. I suppose we should wait till the end to make out mind up.

Owen has done what alot of 3rd choice strikers would have. Nothing special. Bent has been better this year. Dunne is a better signing.

    Dunne > Owen

How'd this end up a thread about the England squad? lol

Back to Dunne, I thought at the end of last season all right that he was getting 'stale' (to use another poster's phrase). However, seeing City struggle so much without him has reminded me how valuable a player he is. I am a fan still of Touré, but City spent £14 million on an inferior player. What City needed was a partnership of Dunne/Touré or Dunne/Lescott. Instead they have a partnership of two sidekicks with no hero. There have been some good buys this season, but considering how little Dunne cost he has to be up there.

Forgot about Kranjkar for €2 million. Thought Harry would have to have an entry in signing of the season.

I think for Value this was a fantastic signing.

If Villa can get a top 4 finish then yes but still a great signing. I think Dunne needed a change and now he has settled is playing really well.

Another great signing along with Cattermole and Turner who they got alot cheaper then what was reported.

Dunne has done well and definately has to be in there as a contender for signing of the season, at this stage.

One big factor is just how poor City have dunne done since he left and how badly his much more expensive replacement has fared.

Even if Dunne had only performed ok for Villa, Lescott's poor performances at City would probably have been enough to get him into consideration for player of the season.

As it is with his generally excellent performance as well as his moral leadership qualitites he has really succeeded far better than just ok and has looked a real master-stroke signing.

Cana at Sunderland has been tremendous as well.

Also one that no-one has mentioned is Joe Hart at Birmingham, they've been great at the back, a lot of it is down to him.

Joe Hart has indeed been excellent. Is he on loan or did Brum buy him?

On loan at the moment but rumour has it they'll make a bid in Jan to get him fulltime, now that they're minted.

Birmingham getting Hart permanently would be a great move for them

Don't think we'll allow a permanent move. He's rated very, very highly by us.

£6m for Catts and £4-£6m for Turner, cracking business. We only have a net spend of around £15m this season, considering the improvement we have made on that much money it's astonishing. Cana was only £5m-£6m too.

Cost effectiveness isn't anything, in terms of importance to the team, the likes of Dunne and Bent are miles ahead of Owen

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

still one of the best defenders in the league - hughes doesn't really do to well by his defenders - look at Richards has went from immense to AIDS as soon as hughes came on board - kolo & lescott are heading south too..

Richard will play for a well for a long time under MON - couldn't be happier for him, he's really turned into a great pro, after a shakey start

in fairness we were poor last season too while dunne was playing for us. i think the move gave him a new lease of life. could have done the same for us but we'll never know. should never have been sold though.
