Eircom cutting off/reporting people for illegal downloads

Does anyone know if this has actually happened to someone? I guess they track people thru the IP address?

iv heard it happen before alright but i think they single out a person every so often and make an example of them. The costs of monitoring every user then the costs of bring them to court ect, just wouldn't be worth while.

Eircom would not bring them to court the holder of the copyrighted material would.

eircom don't track or monitor anyone. They wait for a user to be reported. They also block some P2P sites.

The EU telecoms package, as discussed in the links above, provides that eircom can no longer enforce the 3 strikes and your out policy. If a disconnection is to take place, it must be ordered by the courts. How the Courts would feel about a constant stream of minor copyright infringements for referal is fairly obvious. So - draw your own conclusions.
