    Simple, best 4-4-2 team in world football today but your only allowed use each league once

    Here's mine

    GK = Igor Akinfeev CSKA Moskva
    DL = Phillip Lahm Bayern Munchen
    DR = George Galamaz Unirea Urziceni
    DC = Nemanja Vidic Manchester United
    DC = Giorgio Chiellini Juventus
    ML = Lionel Messi Barcelona
    MR = Ibrahim Affelay PSV
    MC = Yoann Gourcuff Bordeaux
    MC = Joao Moutinho Sporting club de Portugal
    ST = Adriano Flamengo
    ST = Artem Milevskiy Dynamo Kyiv

    very creative midfield, maybe a little light up front, but overall a solid selection IMO

    Be very difficult to pick that, one player from eleven leagues... Will give it a go later on tho!!!

    Surprised you omitted the Belgian League from both those line ups; Steven Defour would be worth a place in both those teams.

    I don't understand everyone picking Vidic. Sure, he can be a great defender, but would you really pick him over Rooney/Torres/Drogba/Gerrard/Fabregas?

    Big, bruising, proficient defenders are ten-a-penny in every league around Europe. The likes of Rooney or Torres aren't.

    Despite a ropey back 4, OP's judgement is Archimedes team just shades the competition so far, just so much threat going on there with that front 5, I reckon my original team could grind out a 1-0 though with Nemanja and Chiellini at the heart of the defence

    This thread would do Igor Akinfeev's confidence a world of good :)

    Great pick on Srna and Ochoa whoever picked him above, dont know how i forgot Srna tbh hes my first purchase in every Football Manager Season:D

    Veron's rep is pretty much untenable in this part of the world due to his notorious shortcomings at United and Chelsea. Good point though, he virtually carried Estudiantes to the Libertadores

    Prefer Riquleme to be honest. Very similar players with a very similar approach to the game and both have had great success since returning to Argentina, winning personal awards and club silverware. Not much between them at all, but for some reason I just prefer Riquleme despite the fact I had a Veron poster from his days at Parma on my wall for years!

    I have to disagree, I'm a Juve fan and he's a quality defender week in week out in Serie A, look how much they missed him against Bayern? which is probably the only game most people have seen Juve play this year

    I can't say I'm au fait enough with 11 leagues to pick any sort of team that's not based on youtube clips or videogames.

    I never knew we had so many aficionados of the Ukranian league, though!

    @CantGetNoSleep: Di Maria is class, but he is a winger, Joao is a centre mid (and a pretty fine one IMO) so theyr not in conflict position wise, thats the same thing as you slating me for having Vidic in my team and not Rooney.

    @NekkidBibleMan: Yeah because you really have to be so extremely "au fait" with all 11 leagues to pick one good player from each, cop on and take the thread in the spirit in which it was intended. And Ukraine has its top teams representing the country in Europe so that was a bad example on your part

    Maybe because in football, people have diverse opinions. Perhaps these people picking these "other" players have a interest in different leagues. There is life outside the EPL.

    To answer your question, yes. Vidic is, in my opinion, the best CB in the world. Gerrard/Fabregas aren't the best centre midfielders in the world. Players like the calibre of Pato/Messi/Villa/Ibra/Eto'o/Suarez/Benzema/Henry/Fabiano/Ronaldo etc... Where as, for defenders, I can't name one better than Vidic outside the EPL.
