Anyone know of a reliable place to get some raw jeans hemmed? I assume chainstitching is out of the question?

yep out of the question - If you drive up Church Road in Raheen - there's a Laundrymat/Film Processing place - Ambassador I think it's called - on the right hand side once you come to the clearing showing into the Industrial estate. They have a seamstress in there that would be able to sort out your problem.
