Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Bluray + Surround for €300?

    Hi all,

I've been looking into a cheapish bluray + surround sound setup, hopefully around the €300 mark. There's plenty of players that look up to the job (at least as far as my basic needs go) for €150 or a bit less, so I'm wondering if there's any chance of finding a suitable receiver and speakers for €150-200. There's a few dvd all-in-one systems around that, but of course the don't seem to have any digital inputs.

The best option I've found so far is the Samsung HT-BD1250 all-in-one at €450ish which seems quite good, but I'd like to see if there's any cheaper options too if anyone knows some?

Also, I've noticed that some players come with 7.1 analogue outputs, is it reasonable to just hook an amp and speakers directly to those?

Yes, this is possible, but I'm not sure if you can get a multi input amp for your budget.

What you are looking for is called "multi channel input" or "Pre- in".

Thanks, I was thinking of going with one of the cheap amp+speaker sets, but I think at this point one of the all-in-one bundles is going to work out best.

I don't think its possible at €300. Up your capital to €500 and your options will multiply. If going for a single unit Blu-Ray Digital+HD PCM Surround, Pioneer, Sony & Panasonic do extremely good units below €700. I would not go for anything less myself.
One tip: Make sure the system you choose has a HDMI input as well as a HDMI output, as it would be great to feed your Sky+HD box through your system and get uncompressed digital output to your 5.1/7.1 speakers.
