check if phone is stolen

Hi, i bought a phone second hand and paranoia is getting the better of me, is there any way i can check if the phone was stolen? i have the IMEI.

Try making a call. If its stolen it will be blocked from the networks

However a barred phone may work here and a phone barred here wont appear on this data base but wont work here but will abroad. I learned this the hard way

You wont know unless it was fully reported stolen and labelled as blacklisted.
