Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hard drive duplicator

I'm setting up a PC repair section here in the college I work in to give students hands-on experience with fixing computers.

Here's what I want to do - when a PC/laptop comes in to be repaired, the first step is to remove the hard drive and perform an image copy of it.

Now, I know I can use Norton Ghost and the like with external caddies, but what if the hard drive is not bootable? Or has a Linux install on it? Can Norton duplicate these types of drives?

Basically, I am looking for a hardware/software solution that will make an exact replica of the hard drive, irrespective of the contents, so that if the worse happens, the hard drive contents can always be restored.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    TD.

Hi tom best solution I found so far is too use acronis imaging software to clone the drive. can get this at http://www.acronis.com/ install on any PC then create a bootable cd, this is then used to clone the drive laptop/destop etc,etc clone is backed up onto external USB drive. With this one you can even restore certain files from the image. I used it to transfer system from laptop(motherboard fried) onto a desktop.. If it dosent take when transfering from one PC to another just restore onto new PC/Laptop then use repair option with XP... It also work cloning Linux... where the harddrive is not bootable it's not an issue as your booting from the CD..Plenty of info on site... good luck
