    Hi all,

You might be able to help me. I'm looking to purchase a server (Quad Core, 6GB RAM, SATA RAID 0/1 etc) and looking for someone to help installing it. It's for a school.

Does anybody know any good companys out there that would deliver and help with the installation?

Why 6GB? If your using win 2003 standard it will only see 4GB.
You should go raid 5 on the drives with an extra for a hot spare so 4 * 300GB drives would give you 600GB for O/S and Data.
I would recommend a HP or a dell server as I have installed both in alot of schools and have ran great.

Group Policy in 2003 is great for schools but if are buying a new server you should also price OEM version of server 2003 r2 as some nice extra policy lockdown's.

Just to disagree with JamesD. Do not price OEM windows server. Microsoft volume license their software at about 1/6th of the price to schools through selected partners (e.g. www.bss-ltd.com, including windows server and CALS.)

You can enable higher memory support with the /PAE switch at a small performance hit, though it needs to be done manually. And some software that schools install won't be supported on x64, such as some attendence software. It would work usually, but if things go wrong it's an excuse used.

Would agree with Raid 5. Raid 1 doesn't perform all that well, especially if you are looking to use desktop redirection, so kids documents/desktop follow them around.

Depending on who the school is run by (eg: a VEC) they may have access to a Campus Agreement in which case they'll get massive discounts on Windows and Office to name but two.

With the standard edition it won't matter if the /PAE switch is used because the OS won't detect/allow you to use more then 4gb due to licensing.
