    What the fuck is this?!

Just watching Hollyoaks; in the first scene they're all in a bar singing Fairytale of New York - the original Pogues/Kirsty Maccoll version.

One of the characters sings the best line in the song "You cheap lousy ******" as "You're cheap and you're haggard" a la Ronan Cunting Keating.
Blasphemy, as far as I'm concerned.

Any gay people here, would you complain about it if they broadcast the character singing the real line?

Anyone know any other songs that have been compleeeetely murdered in cover versions?

Say that too on E4 +1. I quickly realised when I saw the bad acting, the **** storyline and after the annoying intro it was Hollyoaks and promptly changed the channel.

You really need to stop watching hollyoaks.

They dont have murder the theme tune on hollyoaks. Sounds like a speeded up version of a ZZ Top tune

I'm sure they wouldn't, but the b1tchy mothers that complain to the TV station would have a problem alright. "Ooh, you said a bad word on your show and now my little boy Timmy is scarred for life, ooh".

    Idiots

    Too funny brum-meister!

I heard Ronan Cretin's version the other night and was traumatised.

How the man can show his face in public astounds me!

He arrived on-stage at the Yusef whatever his name is's concert and did a duet of father and son

    Cue mass walk-out.

    Leave the classics alone!

Ye wasn't there some hullabaloo one of the years recently with bbc because they were broadcasting that clean version. People complained about it and I think now their air the rude version.

    From wiki: Alternative meaning
"f****t" was a word used before the 1990s in Ireland and Liverpool, UK. When it was used, such as in the 1987 The Pogues' single "Fairytale Of New York", it meant "a lazy person".

Hell no. I'm far, FAR more insulted by that God-awful censoring of it. It's pretty obvious listening to the lyrics that it's not a homophobic slur.
And even if it was, I honestly wouldn't give a **** 'cause it's a class song!

"Political corectness gone mad" is an often meaningless cliche that gets thrown about far too often, but in this case it's quite accurate.

"You're cheap and you're haggard"? Fcuk off.

How about if we complained saying "Us haggered folk resent your attempt to belittle us, changing lyrics to a song just to have a go at us".

Or, we could set fire to the Hollyoaks set! No more Hollyoaks, no more bad storylines involving whatever Hollyoaks storylines involve and more importantly, no more Hollyoaks!

'' Once I had a love and it was a gas, soon turned out
Had a heart of glass into '' be a pain in the ass '' :pac:

It was edited in Radio versions as far as i know.

But that lyric is definately present on the album version.

I was more used to the original single 80s version and only saw her singing it , giggling away live on tv ,adding the ' pain in the ass ' bit back in the 90s

The best one was from BBC4 and RATM today.

They promised BBC they wouldnt swear on air......... the main chant of the song is "F*ck You i won't do what you tell me"
What did they think would happen? Maybe they should've told them TO swear!

LOL indeed . Remember that Mike Read ,the dj saying he was not going to play Frankie goes to hollywoods ' Relax ' because of the 'profound sexual conatations ' which only helped the record shoot to number one when it got much more airplay at the time on all the other radio networks .

Ha yeah heard that on the radio once or twice. Wasn't sure if I was hearing the lyrics correctly. The DJ obviously just played the album version.

More syllables too, increasing the likelihood of the singer tripping over his words. Always a welcome sight.
